Fishing the bottom barrel for the 15th spot.

Post#1 » by gswhoop » Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:44 pm

Not sure what to make of this when we’re bringing guys in like collison and now Arcidiacono while teams like the lakers are getting buyout minimums like deandre and millsap to the nets.

Is this a sign that the culture we think we have isn’t all that?

I’m ok with that too, it just means that it’ll just be even sweeter to win with this squad.

meh, I just think we're focusing more on the guard spots...we need a back up point, not another big like Millsap or DeAndre. i doubt we offered those guys anything.

also for Millsap it's pretty obvious he'd get more mins on Brooklyn...also Brooklyn its just the easiest path to a title for him so even if we did offer him something if he just wants to win a ring joining Brooklyn makes the most sense.

It's a stretch to think they're actually trying to fill that 15th spot, it's much more likely they're just trying to fill out the 20 spots for the camp roster. You don't want to go in with just 17 players.

I don't think it reflects on our culture so much as our perceived title chances. The team wanted to address the backup PG spot and they haven't really done that yet....and no I don't consider that cheese guy as addressing the need.

You've got two totally stacked teams to choose from in Lakers and Nets. If you are chasing a ring, that's where you go.
And then a former juggernaut that has their second best player coming back with some question marks due to two years of injury,
and a bunch of young (but promising) talent.
With Steph, Klay, Dray and Ig the sky's the limit but they will need so many things to go their way to get 45-50 wins.
No injuries, bench players fitting in nicely and contributing, rookies and second years taking a leap. On paper they've improved, and over 82 games I think they will end up improving over last year, but brace yourselves. Realistically, There will be growing pains.

Situations like this where I always remember Matt Barnes being the last guy to make that 2006-2007 roster which ended up with the We Believe run. He only made like 19 threes his whole career before joining GSW and his first year as a Warrior he made 100+ threes including big threes in the Playoffs. Doesn't hurt to look for some random guys out there who could end up being a low risk, decent reward lol.

Trying to find a diamond in the rough. Happens every season for some team so why not us? Also it keeps our scouts and new staff busy and see their skills?

We're fine. Missing on Millsap hurt but a lot of the vets LAL & BKN signed are washed.

There will be some buyouts midseason. GSW should keep that 15th spot flexible in order to pounce as needed.

Speaking of Barnes, I wouldn't mind picking up an enforcer type, we're a little thin there. Guys like Barnes, Bogut, Zaza, West, and Stephen Jackson brought some toughness which comes in handy in many situations, especially in the playoffs.

Exum.

I hate that he might be signing with the Rockets.

The Lakers have open roles for them. We're offering them our 15th spot, as a guard, behind Curry, Klay, Poole, and Moody. That's 2 stars, a solid young draft pick after a great season, and a lottery pick.

I wonder how the Warriors are approaching it. To me, there should be a defined role to offer: what Wannamker had last year.

Maybe they just can’t say it convincingly.

Lakers and Nets are going all in for the title.

The Warriors want to develop young talent.

Guys like Millsap don't want to lose minutes to young guys on a team with lower odds of winning it all.

Maybe just put an ad on Indeed for a Wannabe Wannamaker. Problem solved. Man, I could do Myers' job.

Exum has been injury free for a while and his body is matured now.

Livingston was also an injury risk.

I'd prefer Cook to IT.. I guess

Still boggles my mind that its not a lock for Jessup.. we're in cap hell for the foreseeable future and bringing in a guy who's cost controlled for the next couple years is key

If our 15th man is actually part of our rotational plans this year, thats extremely concerning. Guys like Bowman, Quinn, IT, Collison.. they'll be available in the middle of the season. Probably during 10 day contract season too

I would be interested in Bradley if he has anything left in the tank, not really interested in IT or Cook. I wonder what big man they will take a look at?

The Golden State Warriors will work out Isaiah Thomas, Avery Bradley and Quinn Cook, among others, this week.

The Warriors would like to sign a big man and two guards for camp.
