Jimmer Fredette, Noah Vonleh Sign With Shanghai Sharks

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Sun Sep 19, 2021 12:49 am

Former NBA players Jimmer Fredette and Noah Vonleh have signed with the Shanghai Sharks for the 2021-22 season. This will Fredette's fifth season with the Sharks and Vonleh's first season in Shanghai.

Fredette has played with Shanghai from 2016-17 through 2018-19. He returned to the Sharks for the 2020-21 season after playing for Panathinaikos in Greece in 2019-20.

In 174 games for Shanghai, Fredette has averaged 34.1 points per game. He's also become a fan favorite with his high-scoring games and deep shooting range. Fredette briefly returned to the NBA, with the Phoenix Suns, at the end of the 2018-19 season, after the CBA season ended.

Vonleh played in four regular season game for the Brooklyn Nets during the 2020-21 season. In seven NBA seasons, Vonleh has averaged 4.9 points and 5.1 rebounds over 339 games played.

Fredette and Vonleh will team with another former NBAer, Jamaal Franklin, on the Sharks. Both Fredette and Vonleh remain NBA free agents and will be free to sign an NBA contract when the CBA season completes.

Why exactly did he not get an opportunity for a longer career in the NBA again?

He can't defend or run the point. He played 6 years in the NBA. He had plenty of chances.

He's a Quadruple A player. Dominates the minors but can't hang in the pros. He needs to be a ball-dominant star to succeed and can't play a role smaller than that.

As with most top International players who could hack it in the NBA, I'm sure he prefers the status/security/role rather than riding the fringes of the NBA.

Noah Vonleh needs to fire his agent. He and Ed Davis somehow never get paid despite being as good or better than other bigs getting large contracts.

He spent 6 years? I swear it was like two seasons.

His shooting motion off the dribble is too slow for the NBA. He can't stay in front of anybody. He reportedly had a terrible attitude and couldn't be coached.

Not sure, Vonleh can defend some and that seems to be it, can't score or shoot or do anything else

Davis fell apart in 2020. He made 44M in his career as a backup big. He'll live.

Vonleh was a bit of a jack-of-all-trades, master-of-none. PF skillsets changed right as he entered the league. He wasn't good enough offensively as a PF, and couldn't protect the rim as a C. The Hornets also shouldn't have been the team to draft him.

But certainly after 7 seasons and 7 teams, he had his chances to prove himself. His agent is the one who got him half those jobs.

I think Davis did everything Tristan Thompson did but one got to play with Lebron and the other didn't. Nine years later I'm not as upset.

With Vonleh though, he missed out on all the 2016 money (can't remember if he was FA) and never even got an MLE deal any year thereafter.
