Amazing shooter, always wanted the Celtics to sign him.

Why isnt Simmons reporting? Because they tried to trade him? Because the media was mean?

not gonna defend Simmons too much here because i think he's a donkey for not honoring his contract that he signed... but... if after every underachieving season everyone keeps lauding how embiid is the cornerstone and savior and simmons is the scapegoat, i dunno, i'd get pretty tired of it too.
he might never live up to his #1 pick but he's a great player given the right situation.

From his perspective... because Doc and Joel both publicly blamed him for their playoff failure and then Morey spent the whole summer publicly trying to trade him. You could see this mess coming from a mile away. Ben is not blameless but I really don't understand what else the Sixers thought was going to happen here.

I keep seeing this take that everyone was blaming him, but all the public comments I saw were supportive of him. I mean local media isn’t just going to ignore that their 40M player is afraid to shoot in the 4th quarter. If your skin is that thin, how can you be a pro?

It was right after they got eliminated in the playoffs a few months ago. Joel was asked why they lost and said it was because Ben passed up a dunk and the game slipped away at that precise moment. And then Doc was asked if Ben could be the point guard on a championship team and his answer was he didn't know. You can tell they know they screwed up because Doc was on TV just this morning trying to walk it back and say the opposite.

The funny part is Doc was actually being charitable, because the real answer is "no." Could he be a starting PF or small ball center on a championship team? Ya, maybe. Even then it would help if he could shoot, at all, in the 4th quarter. But a guy with no outside shot isnt a PG on a champion.

Yeah I mean I don't disagree with you. I'm not trying to defend Simmons here as much as someone asked why he's sitting out and I'm trying to answer that question from his perspective as best I can.

Simmons and Embiid are the last remnants of Philly's despicable tanking era. You cant breed winning by learning to play within a culture of tanking...and then suddenly becoming entitled to win. Both Embiid and Simmons need to work on their games...unfortunately for Simmons he's in the Philly fan bases crosshairs and they have zero patience...
looking forward to Philly selling low on Simmons.

I mean, I guess I could see being upset about those comments in the moment. And maybe you yell at Doc and use that as the springboard to a summer of “I’ll show you who’s a championship PG.” Instead it seems like he just pouted and didn’t put any effort into what could make him a better player.
I just don’t see why any team would want to give much of anything for this guy, especially considering his contract. Yes, he’s a great defensive player and is a good passer for a big guy, but why would any team wanna deal with the headache that he brings. Unless this is your best path to get a guy with his potential.

I mean, this is us making assumptions on what went wrong, but none of us know what went on in private which could be guiding this. So, yeah what we saw may not seem too big to workout but what about the stuff we don't know. To blame this all on Ben (people saying he isn't tough or professional), seems weird to me, because we probably don't have half of the story.

It could be that Simmons is the stoic accepting all the blame without letting the other side of the story come out which would show him as the victim. I just don’t think it’s very likely. He would have no incentive to continue keeping things quiet. If bad things were happening at practices, don’t you think Rich Paul would be screaming that from the rooftops? The worst things we’ve heard were the public comments made by Doc and Joel in the heat of the moment.
Maybe Doc and Joel call him every night and flush the toilet when he answers and laugh like hyenas.

I wonder if the 6ers will pay Ben if he sits out? It's a fun exercise in game theory. Don't discount an emotional owner acting against his franchise's best interest.
If things are really bad between Embiid and Simmons I hope Brad is calling up and offering Brown for Embiid.
If I'm the sixers I tell Brad to pound sand but it's worth a shot. The longer this drags out the more the odds of Embiid leaving increase.
