Cashman deserves some blame for assembling a poor fielding team that also doesn't hit well.

Just a really bad approach to roster building.

Yeah, but look how far they hit the ball when they DO make contact though...

Which given the lack of frequency of contact says a lot.

What "analytics" is Cashman and his nerd posse actually using to drive how this team is built? I keep hearing that Cashman leans real heavy on it and constructs his team based off of advanced stats.

To which, everything has it's place but folks that rely so heavily on stats (you know then ones...that can ramble of one advanced stat after another but otherwise has no idea what any of them actually really mean and was otherwise the kid that either never played the game or was always on the bench picking his nose) really need to rein things in a bit.

I still remember the argument I had a long time ago with this stat geek. I've mentioned it often throughout the years. The argument was about who will be a better major league player (Alfonso Soriano or D'Angelo Jimenez). Both Soriano and Jimenez at the time were top Yankee infield prospects.

I said Soriano would be the better major league player. The other guy said Jiminez. His reason? He said because the (advanced) stats (minor league stats mind you) said so..."END OF STORY" (his very words). I asked him if he had actually ever watched either player play (I had)? His answer was he didn't need to. [insert LOL and HUH gifs].

Why does that (actually watching the player...really watching the player and no just seeing him on a highlight clip a couple times and forming these fantasy images of the guy) matter? Cause if you actually watched either guy play you'd be able to see key traits about each player that doesn't show up in most stats at the time that would project how well or poorly he'd be able to do at (what will or won't translate to) the next level.

In this case it was offensive traits. Soriano had some of the strongest and quickest wrists I had ever seen this side of Gary Sheffield even as a stringy kid. What that meant was that he has the luxury of sitting on the offspeed stuff because he can catchup to the fastballs (major league fastballs)...thrown by any pitcher not just some minor league pitcher. Even if it will take time for him to adjust to the game. Jiminez? He was a junk ball hitter even in the minors. Did real real good at raking mistake pitches but had problems against top tier pitching at the minor league level (be it catching up to high octane heat or curve balls). Problem? Major league pitchers make a lot less mistakes than minor league pitchers and their stuff is much better!

It's the same reason why you can't take a guys college stats and translate it to the NBA just like that. Have to really watch the player play to see the nuances of what will likely and won't likely translate.

So, yeah, these stats that Cashman uses, need to be tempered at the very least.

This team is SOOOO predictable. Win one game scoring 7 runs and go scoreless and lose the next one.

This is it put up or shut up this weekend. My advice to the Yankees don’t listen to Boone, of course the players are very much at fault themselves for the blown games.

lets not be like this. Yankees looked like they were about to be eliminated but are now 8-3 last 11. Gotta give them respect.

They'll probably lose out until the end of the year now.

Cashman's model for building the team is broken. He and Boone need to go.

I stand corrected, Holmes is dealing on 8 pitches has the Sox lineup so off balanced nope take him out and put in Joely Rodriguez, anyone with even a shred of common sense has you going Holmes in the 7th, to Peralta to Chapman. Play baseball and stop listening to Boone or Cashman the fans will have your back.

I have to take everything I have said about Stanton back. I hated him and how injury prone he has been but he has been great this year. Especially since he started playing the outfield. And this series, these past two home runs have been as clutch as can be.

He was great in the playoffs last year and has carried it over here.
