This is perhaps not the perfect metaphor that Kidd thinks it is.

Wish Picasso had had Jason Kidd as his painting coach, his career might have really taken off someday.

Kidd has never been great with metaphors, he once turned his team around 360 degrees

So Wiggins is making it plain no vaccine for him.

This is about to get very interesting. So is the Kyrie Saga but don't think there's any way he gets traded so a little less so

Texas Chuck wrote:Coach Nate talking about the Hawks playing some all bench units this year due to the strength of their depth. Pretty big advantage if they can survive that allowing their best 5 to play more minutes together.

Dieng/Gallo/Reddish/Huerter/Wright really puts a lot of pressure on Gallo offensively, but against other teams' benches might be okay. I guess they can replace Dieng with Lou and play Gallo at center to get more offense out there as well.

Hawks had a really good off-season and should be even better than last year even if they don't repeat the ECF run(Nets and Bucks have to be favorites).
It could work with the personnel they have but the all bench units were one of his failings in Indy. Hopefully he isn't as rigid with them as he used to be.

Bobby Mark's said Wiggins would only lose around $9M not playing any home games. Guess his contract is written in a way where he gets a chunk of it at the beginning/end of the season as apposed to in a game by game basis. Given that he makes over $30M its not the financial hit I thought it would be. Still a lot of money obviously

KAT's comments are let's just say not super encouraging if you are a Wolves fan. Feels like the team makes him a scapegoat while never putting him into position to succeed.

Think the Kyrie one is definitely more interesting as he's a key cog for a team trying to win it all.... especially if lasts until the playoffs

I know exactly what's going to happen there tho. He's going to sit and nets will just live with that and hope that the rules are lifted before the playoffs. He's going to fight it but I don't think he'll win (or at least I hope he doesn't)

I haven't heard anything either way on the Wiggins thing wrt tax payments. Yes I know it's super nerdy and inconsequential but for games missed, since/if he's foregoing salary does that get removed from tax calculations? Like suspensions wouldn't, but this is a bit different.

Yeah, it's $1M-rookie min

Honestly if he just wanted one million guaranteed I don't see why they wouldn't just pay him above the minimum this season then go back down to the minimum next year to keep it fully unguaranteed but it really doesn't matter that much I suppose

Seems weird to hold out of summer league over a $75k guarantee so I'm assuming he caved at the last moment before training camp. Still don't think it's a great look for the Sixers.

I kind of think it has to right? Teams surely pay tax on the accumulation over the year like we all pay taxes. If my job is taxed based on a salary and then I lose that job, I would expect tax savings at end of year.

Though it's an interesting angle to discuss. I've been convinced that GSW trade Wiggins just to save 100m tax but maybe they don't need to if he takes a pay cut like this.

For what it is worth, the scapegoating section was entirely directed at Jimmy Butlers unprofessional behaviour that Towns unfortunately had to deal with, but Minnesota fans are pretty aware that Towns is gone if they don't make the play-in, at least. There is not a single other player in the League that has dealt with the amount of dysfunction that Towns has.

Yeah I was thinking about it a bit more after I posted, and I do think it has to count. It counts towards their salary cap totals, so it would count towards their tax totals. And they're not getting anything taken off the salary cap numbers.

Well, Sports Illustrated released a big story on Towns this morning

https://www.si.com/nba/2021/09/27/karl-anthony-towns-covid-19-daily-cover

Towns has publicly committed to the Timberwolves several times, most recently at the end of the 2020–21 season, when he told reporters he wanted to have a career like Tim Duncan and Kobe Bryant, spending it all with one team. According to someone close to Towns, nothing related to that goal was altered in any meaningful way by Rosas’s dismissal. A contract extension is already on his radar.

“My chips are all on the table,” Towns says. “So it’s up to the Wolves, you know? If they give me the chance to stay there I fa’ sho would take it. The ball is in their court.”
