Nets Will No Longer Offer $186M Extension To Kyrie Irving

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Thu Oct 14, 2021 2:04 am

The Brooklyn Nets will no longer offer Kyrie Irving a four-year contract extension worth up to $186 million. The Nets were publicly hopeful of their chances of signing Irving to an extension before the start of training camp, but his future with the franchise is in doubt following his decision not to get vaccinated. Brooklyn has in turn decided not to allow him to play exclusively in road games.

"He was willing to sacrifice, at the end of the day, $16 million in salary this upcoming year," said Shams Charania on The Glue Guys podcast. "And $186 million as far as an extension that he will not be offered now."

Irving has not publicly explained why he is choosing not to get vaccinated, but Charania reported that is taking a stand on behalf of people who have lost their jobs due to vaccine mandates.

Kevin Durant and James Harden were vaccinated leading to the start of training camp, according to Charania.

Smart move by Brooklyn. Kyrie is way too unreliable and mentally unstable to mortgage the future of your franchise in.

Probably best to cut ties with him as soon as possible.

Injury prone headcase. Nets dodged a bullet. With Harden/Durant, they dont even need Irving.

As I said yesterday, Kyrie is likely on his last max deal. Even if he rejoins the team tomorrow, what are the chances he doesn't disappear for stretches for the life of the contract. There is also a chance he might end up the first max non-guaranteed contract.

Qyrie is getting traded. I don't buy that he's giving up that much money. If Harden and KD sign-off on it, he's going to Philly. That's literally the only place I can picture him agreeing to play for.

If he's allowed to play w/o getting the vaccine and they agree to give him the max at the end of this season-he gone.

Why would any team want a player who can’t play in away games and can’t play in the playoffs half the time along with his usually mental issues. You would have to attach a boat load of picks.

Nobody is taking him.

It’s honestly just sad the state of America is in right now.

For example I’m allergic to and ingredient in both vaccines. I have history dating from when I was 6 I am in my 30’s now I can’t get the vaccine because I would go in anaphylactic shock.

So I’m also a medical student and hospitals are going against everything we stand for as a American because they are saying I need the vaccine when I’m unable to get it. I was going to get it until my doctor who is pro vaccine said I couldn’t.

So I’m in a hard spot because no place will hire me and I can’t get unemployment. So if this stays like this for anther year I’ll be on the street or at my mothers it’s so messed up.

Can the Nets claim a "mental" injury exception?

If you think that Ben Simmons isn't gonna pull an immediate James Harden in Houston impression, you're kidding yourself. Philly might've gotten him to play but he's not going 100%. He's doing w/e the bare minimum is to get paid.

If Qyrie agrees to play in Philly and they don't force him to get the shot, I can see this happening. As to Brooklyn, getting motivated and happy Ben Simmons to lock down opponents while providing ball handling relief for Harden for a someone who at the moment won't be playing for your team....that's a win. Gotta get KD and Harden to agree but it sounds like they might be down.

If Kyrie went to the Sixers, he could play every game. Visitors can play in CA, NY, etc. If it's not too personal, I am curious as to why your doctor said you couldn't get vaccinated?

Kyrie can play full-time for any team outside of NY and LA. That's 25+ teams he can play full-time and unvaccinated for. ... yet he's trying to block a trade to them?

Noone walks away from that much money unless they're already wealthy and do not want to play anymore. It's good of him to walk away rather than get a bull doctors report saying he's vaccinated then infect his teammates though, i'll give hm props for that.

Remember kaepernick and Nike's phony commercial slogan "Believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything"? Unlike that has-never-been lousy QB who only found his enlightenment after getting benched and one leg out of the league, Kyrie is actually doing it for something he believes in so far. Kudos to the man.

They should put his entire salary in escrow. They can pay him whatever is left later if and when he is able to practice.

Good for Kyrie. Stay strong. Unlike kap's bullshyt agenda, Kyrie has a point. The followers are just following the herd, they will follow Kyrie soon.
