Plenty of people had Giddey at 6 (particularly those in Aus who get to watch NBL every week). Second year in a row that supposed American "draftniks" have underrated an NBL prospect.

i remember there being some traffic about Sengun should have been the pick @ 6 instead of Giddey. For those that felt that way was it more due to fit or was there feeling that Giddey was a reach here?

Man, I could not agree more. And you're a big part of why that's true.

I like Sengun (a Sengun goon), but yeah Giddey's such a naturally instinctive player - it's so much fun to watch a guy like that make plays - regardless of whether or not he's a good athlete. He was the right pick at 6.

It always felt pretty clear to me, but I'm lucky that I'm over here and watch the NBL religiously. I was a big proponent of him prior to his NBL stint because of junior play here (I made the breakdown video on YT in 2019 that said he could be a lottery talent), but it's always hard to tell until you see them against pro comp, and having watched all his games live and having the context of watching so much of the league, I think his production was legit and indisputable.

I will say though, he's pulled a few moves out of his hat that I didn't know he had in him this preseason.. he seems to be having fun with the extra space the NBA is affording him, whilst continuing the positive trend with his 3 ball and pull-up mid-range jumper, and he's developed a little bit physically as well. But for the most part, he's playing the exact same way and getting the same results to his season in the NBL.

Sengun at 6 is a big reach but we should have drafted him at 16 :(

Melo but not at the same level for me. If you watch their games back on the logs there’s clear differences between the two. But more then half the stuff they do with the ball in hand is the same when it comes to passing (entry, side to side, non dominant, sweep, overhead, pushing pass etc). Melo had a tighter handle but more out of control but he flashed higher games for me.

Easiest breakdown I can give you, if you take two homunculus with the same type of High IQ for basketball player X is the better athlete all ends up, and player Y but both are 6”8” PG’s.

Player X has a couple of coffee’s before the game : Lamelo (Wildstyle)

Player Y has a blunt before the game: Giddey (Chilled/Composed)

That’s basically it lol. He’s more than likely going to be a top ten passer in the NBA imo

Is Giddey effective on any team he lands on or is his game more dependent on a specific system or playing style?

Giddey

I think he’s going to be good on any team he lands on. Kid is sneaky athletic, and he’s at his best when he’s attacking and going downhill. Kid is one of those passers who creates something out of nothing, and is a master in the pick and roll.

Stylistically (styles not impact!!!) the way he passes is very Steve Nash like, he will make some passes where you wonder if he really does have eyes on the back of his head. People watch highlights, but highlights don’t really don’t do him any justice, some of Giddey’s best passes where when the receiver missed the shot. His jump shot is funky, but it’s definitely workable. Near the end of the season he was hitting and attempting shots he never even took in the begging (step back 3’s, side steps, off the dribble). I can’t say enough about Giddey I feel like he has huge potential. I wouldn’t be surprised if in 5 years time, people look back and people are placing him top 3 in a redraft.

Kid definetly does need to work on somethings though. He has a solid handle, but he definitely needs to tighten it up a notch. He’s also really weak at the moment, but he stood his own vs grown men in the NBL.

Mobley, Barnes, Giddey where three of my favourite prospects in the draft.

I watched all three religiously last season, and to me it was apparent those three had the highest potential in the draft.

Everytime I watched Giddey play in the NBL his skill level and potential was apparent. It made me laugh when people compared him to Shaun Livingston.

5 years from now Mobley, Barnes, and Giddey round out the top 5.

Agree totally I had Vasquez for a little while but after watching it all the way through we had another player just like Giddey go in the draft literally the year before lol. I understand someone saying 6”8 Rubio or Tall Nash/Manu but not Livingston.

Top 5 for me:
Mobley
Green
Johnson
Barnes
Giddey/Cade

When a flawed prospect has a breakout game in the NBA (post-season), it is good to look back on how the board looked at his flaws and his future outlook. We all need to learn about the development and see if there are clues and how much the organization that drafts a prospect plays into that development.
