A timeout there? That seems like a rookie coach mistake. Billups should have drawn up an out of bounds play during Sacramento’s timeout.

Well he hasn't been a head coach at any level so we will see stuff like this from him. I think this team might struggle to win games early, but hopefully they figure things out later.

Well like usual when Dame struggles to score we have trouble winning. ****, I have seen this team fold to some pretty bad teams when both Dame and CJ struggle to shoot well.

Whelp... there was some sporadic good stuff in there... but overall a lot of the same over-help problems. I don't understand it. I don't understand the no-man's land help scheme's that constantly screw the Blazers.... make Barnes beat you off the bounce. Stop sagging into the paint.

Is what it is. Figured after the preseason that game 1 would be ugly. Glad that the Blazers showed sporadic moments of a bunch of stuff working though.

I think the biggest problem was the amount of fouls It seemed like the Blazers were putting the Kings on the FT line like 5-6 offensive plays in a row during the mid part of the 2nd quarter.

Yea.. they fixed that up in the 2nd half. There was A LOT of bad. Don't get me wrong.

Nurkic was close to unplayable offensively for large stretches. Lillard couldn't shoot basically at all, all night. CJ was overdribbling wildly in the 1st half. Defense still overhelping and falling asleep off-ball.

However, things looked pretty good overall in the 4th. The team flashes more potential as the bench looked waaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy better on both ends. Getting better looks offensively and not being an utter sieve defensively.

I think there's stuff to build on. I don't know if things will work out, but it was BY FAR the best all-around effort since the 1st preseason game.

Yeah at least it was close. But we lost to the kings which is the kind of game that could be costly if done on repeat (losing to mediocre teams)

To be fair... it's game 1. We don't have any idea who any of these teams are yet. There was a lot of bad... some good. We'll see what happens.

So apparently Norm hit a 3 when he was out of bounds? And then the refs just wiped it off the scoreboard later on... Since when could they do that? They literally point shaved. Seems fishy, especially since we lost by 3 points. That's some BS.

Well, we looked the exact same as we did in preseason. I don't think Billups is going to save Olshey's bacon.

His insistence that “the problem with the defense is not the roster” will be hard to defend (no pun intended) if the team plays D like they did tonight.

At times both Little and Ant looked like possibly the best player on the court. That's a nice baby step. CJ with 36pts, Simmons suspended and a Blazers loss... Feels like we could be headed for a move...eventually

Would you apply this logic the other way?

They review 3's to see if they are 3's or 2's, in this case they must have noticed Norm was out of bounds, so per the rules of the NBA the shot doesnt count.

Thats about as fishy as a bar of soap.

I just didn't know they could completely take away a basket several minutes later. One of the Morris twins hit a game winner standing out of bounds a few years ago and they didn't waive that off. It's just weird to me. Nice analogy btw? Lol

It still bums me out the Blazers never found a way to get Barnes on the team. He would have been such a great fit...

The Blazers gave up 124 points. To the Kings. Fire Stotts!

I deleted the rest of your post because I agree with it - especially the part about the bench. Much better ball movement and defense than last year's bench. Glad to see that.

Nurk still misses the occasional shot he should make, but overall he had a really solid game. He scored as many points as Dame (20), but did it on 10 FGA vs. 24 FGA for Dame. It was a very efficient 20 points for Nurk. He shot better from 2, 3 and the FT line than Dame with a TS% of .756. I don't expect that level of offensive efficiency from Nurk on a nightly basis, but if he can give you a reasonably efficient 15 - 16 ppg as a 4th option, that would be huge for this team.

He also pulled down 14 reb in 28 minutes and made some big hustle plays in the 4th quarter. Overall, I thought Nurk's play was one of the high points of the night.

I thought the bench played well as a unit and I saw a lot of good things individually. It was nice to see the ball movement from the bench and I really liked seeing Simons scoring in the paint and being more than just a spot up shooter. Nance and Zeller only combined for 3 assists, but I liked the way they kept the ball moving on offense. Quite a contrast to the ball stopping 2nd unit we had last year.
