Lol, some are complaining that she just narrates what's happening and others want her to just call the game. She cannot win.

Here's the problem - Kate just got here and wants it to sound like she's always been here, with the "partner" stuff and the "Zu" references. She and Alaa are trying way too hard to inject themselves into the game, when all people want to do is watch the game.

Just call the game, stop with all the forced humor and giggling, stop with the oh-so-hip lingo, and please dear lord tone down the shouting. Let the audience come to you instead of grabbing them by the throat.

Do those things and the complaints will disappear.

I guarantee you 100% the complaints would not have disappeared.

Personally, I just want her to improve. So im just trying to know where she is going wrong. And from what Ive notice is the pros they just dont narrate that much. And make more commentary than narrating.

Its not the voice. For instance, I love how doris burke covers the game. And Ive longed for wanting to replace Alaa for a long time already. I love Malik Rose.

Malik and Zumoff was the best. Great that we have those two on our rebuilding years

I don't want to speak for anyone, but I believe the 'narrate' thing was a reference to calling the game like a radio announce instead of letting the picture fill in some of the words. Sadly, that is more common than not with the new breed, who are clearly taught to
that silence is deadly, and they end up suffocating the game.

I'm honestly not a fan of a woman's voice for PBP because the big moments tend to be incredibly shrill (as Kate is), but I think they do a great job in the studio or on the sideline. Just my opinion. I actually think Kate is okay calling the game, but the gabbing and 'humor' really have to be toned down.

I'm a fan of very few announcers any more, so for me if it just isn't a distraction it will be fine. It's just the way games are called now that the announcers are more concerned with being cool and injecting themselves into the broadcast as opposed to it being all about the game.

That last one was unfortunate, my first reaction at hearing the news. I'm honestly trying to be fair - believe it or not, I hope she succeeds here, seems like someone who has worked hard to get to this point.

While ad hominum attacks are wrong, what is also sad is the fact that our society has become such that some feel that fair criticism is off limits at times due to race or gender, even if that person has accepted a position in the public spotlight. That isn't fair to the viewers, and it certainly isn't fair to that person if they have an ounce of integrity. I'd be willing to bet that Kate wouldn't wilt at hearing some criticism, as she has stepped into huge shoes.

I'll tell you this - she would be far better off knocking off the clowning with Alaa and the 'Zu-isms' and just carve her own path, for better or worse. Replacing Alaa and starting fresh with a brand new team would have been a much smarter move.

I don't believe a woman's voice is suitable to do PBP, and my wife said the same thing. At the same time, I hope she settles in and becomes a 'voice of the Sixers' that lasts as long as she wants it to. I fail to see how that is so 'sad'.
