Not a great game from the Nets, I think we're getting enough of a sample size where we can say the bench is weak, but I'm not really understanding the Bulls hype even after this game... If the Nets were moderately interested this is probably a W...

I think it boils down to fatigue on this one plus the Bulls played great that last quarter. They made their shots.

Some of yall need to relax. We got gassed after the 3rd. On a full tank we blow Chicago out. This was our 3rd game in 4 nights. Calm down.

However, we need one more player in this rotation that can create his own shot. Kyrie doesn't care, so I think we've got to give Cam a shot with the 2nd unit.

Awful game. Bulls played terrible and blew us out. I didnt expect a win on the 2nd of a back to back on the road but just disgusting for the coaching to throw away any chance at a game away like this that we were in position to win going into the 4th with a lead.

This loss doesnt matter, but again underscores that this team will struggle to win a title with Nash as coach. 0 adjustments to the derozan pick and roll pull up with aldrdige backing off. starting with the all bench unit which has been putrid during this road trip. no timeouts to stop the bulls run. nothing to put vucevic in a screen action. no challenges on some truly awful calls.

maybe we lose anyway, heck we probably do... but Nash basically gifted them this win. this one is 50% on the schedule and 50% on coaching

The bench is fine. you just cant play 5 bench guys all together and expect offense. defense? sure. and do it early when you can overcome if the opponent goes on a run, not in the 4th qtr. We really dont need a ton of offense off our bench. Mills/Milsap/LMA should be plenty, especially with them not playing more then 5-8 minutes a night without a star.

Mills needs to hit open shots. He was pretty terrible tonight offensively. He isnt as bad as he was tonight and this was a game we need him to really make a mark. We have an above avg bench, maybe top 10 overall.

Cam doesnt need to play that is an overreaction. we can get him minutes, im cool with that, but not because we are starved for scoring. We need mills to hit shots. im sure he will. Id give milsap more minutes before cam though.

Frustrating last quarter but we just ran out of gas on the 2nd night of the back to back.

Our offense is clearly behind the defense right now, given we are poor in transition and don't get offensive rebounds we get very little easy baskets. I have legit concerns around running KD into the ground since we are way too reliant on his offensively right now.

What a difference a season makes, last season we were scoring for fun. We have a long way to go.

I watched parts of the game live on my phone, since I'm at work. I've got it DVR'd at home, though sing the whole 4th, I'm not sure I have the stomach to review it.

My general thoughts are that we looked like a team of 30-somethings on the 2nd night of a back to back. We had control going into the 4th, but just didn't have the juice to finish them off. They started getting confident and dribble driving relentlessly, and we just had no gas to offer resistance.

I could hope for some better strategy, but overall I'm not bothered by this loss. Let's rest, and get ready for the rest of the week. Go Nets!

Concerns......

Inconsistent defensive rebounding........ This is the scarlet letter and possibly the make or break for our season. How many times are we going to watch our opponent crash the boards and get for example Bulls 15 offensive boards, Nets 6.

Joe scoring in the single digits. We need him to score 15 plus. Props to Joe, he is putting in more effort on defensive and it has really helped.

Hindsight is 20 - 20, but when you got Bruce and Patty shooting cold, why not put Cam in? The kid is capable of lighting it up why let him rot on the bench until garbage time?

Got to give the Bulls credit they scored 42 points in the forth quarter.

I dont see rebounding as even a minor issue. yeah the occasional game like miami cant happen, but the tradeoffs we get by being a bad rebounding team are enormously positive.

I thought Joe scored well and played within his game, i didnt like his turnovers.

I see no reason to sit cam down big late in the 4th, headscratcher. if guys are tired give youth a shot to change momentum. it seemed like nash just threw in the towel when there were adjustments to be made strategicially (dont go drop on the derozan pick and roll when he just hit 3 straight mid range jumpers) and lineup (go with energy guys once your down and guys are gassed).

on to the next one

We're definitely missing MDA this season. The offense is a lot worse. The ATO plays - MDA specialties - are a lot less creative.

Our personnel also plays a big role. Our starting lineup includes Brown + Blake. 2 guys who bring no spacing. Our bench includes shooters who defenses don't respect - Carter, Millsap, Bembry. That just won't cut it.

We're going to need to just hope that Harden gets back to elite level. That's the only way we can get our offense back into the top 7. We're banking on James being the 2nd best or best player on the floor for majority of games.

this team needs to find an identity on offense and defense, lineups and plays making our talent look worse than it is, we know there are deficiencies on the wing, rebounding, and defense. we have to play a slower style with this squad, doesnt seem like we can run and gun as well this year without dantoni

I dont know that we are. i really thing 90% of our issues are Harden not playing to his ability yet...

The reason i say this, is that if you look at the games where he has played like last year, we are right in that 115-118 offensive rating range we were last year. Kyrie factors in, but honestly last year we never had all 3 guys and having at least 2 had us in that 115-118 range.

in games harden scores 20 or more, we are at 113.3 offensive rating.

Now if you want to say that 3-4 points difference off last year when Harden DOES score 20 is because of no MDA maybe thats true. may also be alot of new faces. but i think if you look at us being like 10-12 points off last year 8+ of that is Harden and the rest is tough early schedule and new faces

If harden gives us 20+, we really have no offensive issues to worry about.

GG y’all, looked like the schedule helped the Bulls here as the Nets seemed tired at the end.

Surprised Cam Thomas wasn’t playing, loved his game in college, I’m guessing just too raw right now. What a steal he’ll be in the long run.

Since it's more difficult to see what your team did right/wrong because you're familiar with norms of your own stars and contributors, I'll add some notes from a Bulls fan perspective based on the norms our stars/contributors. I know some people here think I'm trolling, I'm not. I'm curious to see what other team's fans think about their players b/c I'm not familiar with your supporting cast. Anyway...

The bad...Vucevic has made most people want to tear their hair out all season, and until the end of the game it was par for the course. He misses so many open shots for a big guy with a good past reputation, and so far I've seen him dunk once under the basket this season.

The good...I'm aware that you guys were tired from a difficult schedule, and I'm sure that played a big role in the play but we also tend to have fresh legs at the end of games, so catching up near the end wasn't an anomaly for us. The rookie from UofI (Ayo) is sort of a fun surprise for us this season because he's not scared to run the court and drive hard (or shoot from the 3). That has been the norm so far too. Aside from Derozan and Lavine, we tend to have rough stretches where we're stuck at halfcourt and can't penetrate--this regularly leads to poor/missed shooting. That's where a few bench players including Ayo can spark us temporarily.

Bigger picture, I see that you guys are clearly getting better as the season goes on, so hats off to you. And I appreciate the feedback that some of you have contributed on our board.

I view Vucevic as an empty stats player. Without high usage, he provides next to nothing. if you give him high usage, you will suck because he gets his at the expense of others and his stats dont have a big impact on winning. defensively, you are better playing 4 on 5 then having him.

I didnt notice the rookie Uofi to really comment. he didnt stand out much.

I have always loved Lavine. with help and fit he could be a good player. pairing him with Lonzo was brilliance. the Vuc trade was god awful and Derozan is an ok fit but i think you'd be better off with guys like thad that were shipped out.

It seems like unless Lavine hits a super tough shot the offense is ugly and relies on derozan mid range or lonzo creating for someone. Maybe the bulls would suprise me but they were looking like who i thought they were this past week once they stopped playing scrub teams. I dont think the Bulls would have won, or it have been all that competitive if it wasnt 2nd of a back to back on the road/3 games in 4 nights.

the nets didnt really doing anything poorly other then some clear coaching lack of adjustments, but by the 4th nash seemed disinterested. KD did whatever he wanted. we got open looks. we boxed out and rebounded outside of long misses on jumpers. really it was effort/fatuge/focus related.

Return to Brooklyn Nets
