This post truly shows how sad it is for Americans. They think they know everything going on in the world but yet the reality is they’re brainwashed with narratives and stories the US government wants people to hear. You don’t hear never ending stories about the Indian government killing farmers that are protesting against them, the real shooting and genocide that’s going on in Palestine, or the number of bombs that are dropped by American troops worldwide on civilians everyday. You only hear about China China China everyday, and you don’t see an agenda about this? Did you hear anything about China 5-10 years ago when they were making your socks instead of high tech products? It’s clear as day what’s going on for someone whose not living in America.

Oh there’s definitely an agenda. There have also been regime changes in China, and Xi’s geopolitical policies have also been more aggressive than previous presidents. The world is a lot more globalized now, and it’s much harder to hide things. Uighur testimonies are on social media and refugees are in the states.
Let’s not even act like the China scrutiny is new. Tiananmen, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Dalai Lama, North Korea, religious persecution, corruption, etc. These have been things that are common knowledge for a while now.
So yea, I agree, there’s an agenda. Don’t think Kanter has the same motivations of that agenda. And I don’t think that they’re lying, either. I’ve had Chinese friends in SOEs that tell me that the Xinjiang stuff is real — they just don’t dare talk about it

Kanter is a sensationalist and a hypocrite. He’s employed by the NBA who values their position in China more than Nike does.
The NBA is the most popular sports league in China and the 625 million basketball fans there shouldn’t be punished because of what their government does.

China is a threat to US economic dominance so there is an agenda from some people to bring them down a notch by highlighting their transgressions over the transgressions of other countries but I agree that Kanter doesn't seem to care about that. His interests are for the Uyghurs and for human rights and I respect him for making a public protest in support of his convictions (and yes to some degree I would apply that reasoning to Kyrie Irving as misguided as I think he is).

I'm also thinking about how David Stern would have handled all of this.
David Stern would have never allowed such a thing to happen on his watch. He would have made sure that the NBA dress code forbade any political messages. Kanter may not even be in the league anymore if David Stern was still alive and running things. I can't imagine that Stern would have ever allowed players to customize their jerseys like they did in the 2020 bubble.

This post is emblematic of the detritus people have floating in their head that prevents them from accepting the simple reality that a government is acting oppressively. Such blatant what-aboutism, straw-manning, and deflection.
The fact is is that the CCP is engaging in cultural erasure. The CCP has engaged in cultural erasure in the past, both of its minorities and in controlling the current prevalent historical narrative. To say that Americans are brainwashed and to imply that the CCP doesn't brainwash its citizens is actually laughable. If you believe that, I'd say you should be embarrassed but you probably lack shame to begin with.
Another fact is that there's no good guys in geopolitics. Thinking the American government is benevolent is as silly as thinking that the CCP is benevolent.

Or the 30 something owners. NBA agreeing to billon dollar partnership with China. The NBA as a whole is the culprit. Singling out one guy because you dont like him is not the way to go in my opinion.
Yes. Kanter missed the big picture of Lebron losing money. Very uneducated take by Kanter.
So there have been interviews guys Like Mark Cuban asking if he has any problems doing business with China in light of everything that has been coming out. He had no problem what so ever. It's business first. Why are these people getting a pass???? Criticize Lebron all you want he deserves it but why are owners and the NBA getting a pass?
People do not have issue with other people making business with China. People have issue of someone calling other people uneducated when they want bring light to the issues Taiwan is facing to silence them. This is so obvious stop trying to twist this.
Lebron is basically a definition of a sell out. Virtue signal as long as it's not away from HIS bottom line. When it hurts him he doesn't say a peep, just calls others ignorant and uneducated.

LeBron is obviously content with helping his community in this country, it doesn't mean he's completely full of sh*t or that the other work he does isn't valuable. I wish more people cared about China as people that care about what LeBron thinks about China. Those are the people that are overflowing with sh*t.
The problem is he could've just not said anything and kept out of the Morey china fight but he didn't and chose to side with china. That's what rubbed people wrong. If he's going to interject into it then people have the right to criticize him.
That is the part most posters here dont seem to get. There was a controversy, Morey spoke out more clearly than anyone before, China threatened the league. Noone forced LeBron to open his mouth in the situation. Its fine if he cares about his community "only". Noone forces him to be a fighter for the chinese people. But there was no need to take sides against Morey and thats what he did and that - and nothing else - is what Kanter and critical posters on this board address.
THIS. Do people still not get it? Those who criticize lbj dont care what social justice crusade he wants to be on. Save the whales? why not. Protect the rainforest? More power to you. Stop the child bride trafficking? Il support that as well.
However, when someone else have their own social justice cause and you belittle/attack/ basically told him to " shut up and dribble" ??
That' s the time we call Lehyprocite Qing James out.

Good lord. Lol. This is why Lebron should've just stayed quiet. His response is so tone deaf and dumb that it proves Kanter's point.

As a fan of an opposing team that went to heavy battle with Lebron's Cleveland teams, I've been pretty supportive of Lebron the player. But I do see the white man correlation that got my attention with him, and others refusing to support/congratulate Jokic as the obvious MVP. I don't feel he wants a "white man getting punished" but I do feel there is something to Morey and Jokic being whiteMephariel wrote:Jkam31 wrote:[gfycat][/gfycat]Mephariel wrote:If Lebron is bowing to China, so is the NBA. Here’s the difference lebron told Morey to shut up and dribble when he says they’re more than athletes so ya he’s different than everyone else staying quite. Dude doesn’t care about social justice unless it’s a white man getting punished
Lebron never told him to shut up and dribble. He said there are negative ramifications to words. Obviously he is being self-serving here but not sure why you are bringing up a white man into this.

A bit disappointed in Enes. Theres a lot of ways he could have gotten that message across that strongly without going at the man like that.
There's a lot of nuance around this situation... not everyone has the same type of courage that Enes has, nor should they be expected to be. Also, not all situations are the same, especially when we consider things like safety.
ngl tho man its gotten my interest. I'm glad someone's finally speaking about the situation itself. I'm disappointed in the way its being packaged.
how is it being disappointing when china is taking over the world forcefully?
he knows if he keeps blind eye for another decade, humanity will fall as evidenced by chinas threat of trade war. most americans take their freedom for granted too much they dont deserve the privilege they are getting when kanter is literally the final bastion of hope.
enes is risking his life but hes risking either way if he remains silent he will get oppressed eventually.
Who did they bomb, which country did they wreck in the last 30, 40 years

I am completely in agreement and am now convinced that Lebron is an identity-politics baiting poser, like so many on his side... all in it for self, money and power, rather than to do actual good. The journalist even tried throwing him a bone with the way he phrased the question, asking, "how do you feel about Enes Kanter using an image of your likeness on his shoes, in his advocacy for human rights".
Yet the only thing on Qing James' mind was "me, me, me, me", as you can see in his response, "If you know me, I don't really give people too much of my energy. He's trying to use my name to create an opportunity for himself". He's always had a thing or two to say in my direction."
Just shut up and dribble, Lebron.

There's loads of people who talk about Palestine and US foreign policy, but very few people know what China is doing to the Uyghur people. Enes Kanter is a Muslim Turk, and he probably has a special bond with the Uyghur's with them being a Muslim Turkic people. It's a noble of him to bring the World's attention to their abysmal treatment by the Government of China. The Chinese Government is trying to eradicate their culture.

Doris Burke hitting even lower lows in that clip lol. Acting like you don't understand why LeBron is being singled out on this is just pathetic. LeBron used the biggest platform in the NBA to denounce someone speaking critically of a country that engages in literal modern slavery. Bottom line. The end.

Kanter has called out his own Government and and now he's persona non grata in Turkey. He can't even go back to his homeland. That doesn't sound like a guy who does things to stay relevant.
