Obviously a lot can change between now and the draft but considering guys that are CURRENTLY in our range on many mock one of the guys I really like is Daimion Collins. He's an explosive forward that is long, athletic and has ball skills. Also his outside shot looks very good and he has a ton of defensive potential.

Yeah but, it ain't always about the talent. I would argue mental makeup is the key component of NBA success.

If a talented player doesn't have the mental makeup, I'd pass on him.

Knox has been mentioned in this thread. When he was coming out one of the knocks on him was his mental toughness. He wasn't a "dog". He seemed to drift in games at UK. He had talent but seemed indifferent and lacking in drive.

Basketball is important to RJ Barrett. Is it important to Kevin Knox? I have my doubts on the latter.

You can see important BB is to RJ by his FT percentage. He was a liability on his first year. RJ worked on his craft and the next year his ‰ jumped 20 points. That is no easy feat because RJ isn't a natural shooter with a light touch. RJ is kinda clunky and robotic and his form is more rote than natural feel.

Knox is still the same guy he was 3 years ago at UK. The warning signs were there but were ignored.

I was talking about Boston in the context of being a second round pick with low risk/high reward. Not the mental makeup. I know Knox is a mental midget who'd rather play Fortnite than work on his drive. My point is that chances are are Rokas isn't even gonna play minutes for the Knicks, so it was a wasted pick.
One player that I'm really interested in seeing how he performs this season is the Illini's PG Andre Curbelo. I mentioned Curbelo as a possible darkhorse 2nd round pick had he opted for the draft after last season. He didn't. Now he's going to be the no.1 guy in terms of running the offense for the Fighting Illini. He's been referred to as Puerto Rican Chocolate for his ball handling and passing ability which is just top notch. Like a Mini Lamelo. Just has an unreal feel for the ball, the pace of the game and where everyone on the floor (for both teams) are. Even off the bench running with the Knicks bench guys? Obi maximizing his explosiveness and finishing? IQ with wide open looks from the 3? Grimes? Noel? :o

Not sure where to put this. so figured here. The Jazz waived Derrick Alston JR. Son of our G league coach. He's 24 but really shoots and handles ball well for a player that's 6'9". If anyone can bring him out of him its his Dad. Lets keep it in the family and bring him home.

What are your guys' opinion on the top 3 in this class? I personally like Jaden Hardy. I think he has the highest chance to become a star from this draft.

no even though he reclassified he is still too young to be in the NBA draft in 2022. He either has to play 2 years at memphis or can potentially sit out the following year and prepare for the draft.

Lucky for the Knicks there are a few SF who they might be able to snag. At the moment it looks like the Hornets will be a playoff team… and even if they are not odds are the Knicks are going to have three first rounders in 2023…. But I digress

Keegan Murray (who might go top ten if he stays on this current hot streak)
Matthew Mayer
Julian Champagnie
Jabari Walker

Are in our range on a few mocks. The Knicks also have assets to move up if they like someone.

Discuss.

I feel like not enough was made about how much of a low reward trade that was

At best, it'll be the 16th pick in a couple years. It'll depend obviously on who we take and how the guys we could've taken pan out, but I still don't like it.

there was probably some element of panic that went into the decision. If we believe the leaks and we should since they pegged us for Obi the year before. They were very interested in trading up for Duarte. He went and I think the next rumors were they had interest in Trey Murphy or Terence Mann. They went the picks right before them.

So now my guess is the Knicks were on the clock with very little leverage to trade down. Got a pretty weak offer but in terms of using assets to trade for a future big name its like taking a car off a lot (depreciate in value). Especially for the knicks since we probably weren't going to play a rookie anyway (see Grimes and McBride). Once we made the selection there value will go down. So there theory was just not make a selection at all and use it as a future asset in a trade. They probably don't even want it to convey this year so that they can kick the asset down the road again.

The protections stink on it and was clear they didn't have a lot of leverage to make that move.

I think it was definitely Duarte. A 3 and D guy and now doing well.

I think it was Duarte too. Grimes is a version of the same type of player. Flipside I wouldn’t say Duarte is doing great, especially when you consider his age and upside. He might be bench player good his entire career. At least with Grimes there is upside to hope he can develop into a starter…. If he gets regular minutes.

I took the liberties of modifying the first post. Charlotte pick would convey as of today.
BAF Clippers
PG: CP3 | SGA
SG: SGA | Big Ragu
SF: J Brown | Dorture Chamber
PF: Gordon | Niang
C: Capela | Sharpe

Deep Bench - Forrest | Oladipo | Fernando | Young | Svi | Cody Martin
