Looney

Post#1 » by Scoots1994 » Fri Nov 19, 2021 4:59 pm

He's looking so much smoother and in better shape this year than in the past.

It's kind of amazing to think Looney is still younger than Payton, Lee, Wiggins, and JTA despite being in his 7th season with the Warriors.

I still don't trust that his body can take extended minutes but he's a major part of the Warriors success this year.

Bringing this to the top...

He's been really good at what he does. I can't believe how effective he is keeping faster players in front of him. He does this little proactive shuffle anticipating the drive...and cuts them off.

He's been very good rebounding....even roofing some drive now and then.

I was wrong in predicting BJ would be the starter by mid-season...Clearly Looney is a much better defensive player and an amazing hustle and glue guy.

He had that clunker a couple of games back where he couldn't move or finish at all. He was clearly worn out. Then last game he was a monster again.

Looney is a guy who has Turkish league athleticism and a HoF mind. He is very effective if he's physically right, but he needs to be near 100%.

one of the most underrated guys we had over last few years. every season people complain about his lack of speed or his finishing around the rim, yes he's not an athletic freak, but he has the BBIQ to make up for it. he also is a hard worker who does all the little things without running his mouth or taunting opponents.

I love Kevon Looney. Just watching him outwork and, yes, outplay KAT in the Minny game -- a player who many people on this board would gladly trade all our young players and Wiggins for, despite the fact that he doesn't play much defense -- was an extreme pleasure.

It's also a reminder why you can't understand professional sports if all you look at is stats. Looney does more that doesn't show in statistics than almost any Warrior I've ever seen.

Grandpa Loon is playing great. He still runs like a 70 year old with a recent double hip replacement, but he looks a lot fitter and strangely bigger.

He is so good at what he does and knows his limitations. A big reason for our rebounding this year. Hopefully his play is added motivation for Wiseman to try and take minutes from him upon JW's return to the lineup.

Melo and amare should thrive in this offense. If Jeremy Tyler and cole Aldridge looked that good in summer league then us knick fans have a lot to be excited about. Make room for all the bandwagoners when we take off

Yeah, come to think of it, he seems like an excellent example of the right guy in the right system. He might not be nearly so valuable on another team. Great fit.

I laugh when I see non-Warriors people propose these schemes to dump Looney for tax savings.

Looney is kind of amazing. He manages to be valuable even though he can't shoot. There are not many big men in the league who can't shoot the way Looney can't shoot. But I don't think Kerr would give him up without a fight.

Loon is awesome. I love how the emotion on his face never changes no matter time and situation of the game. He is steady as they come and just comes in and does his job to the best of his abilities.

Great story demonstrating just the perfect little things Looney does for us.

And since not every team plays the same kind of team-based ball on both sides of the court as the Warriors, which requires some players to work to help others (basically, to be like an offensive lineman in football - necessary but without glorious stats), most opposing fans don’t value him, and he wouldn’t have the same value most other places.

Let’s enjoy him.

There is no doubt in my mind, that if Kerr told Looney to shoot 8-10 open mid-range jumpers per game, that he would hit at 50%. He has a great work ethic, and his shot actually looks good when he is forced to take one. That's what is so great about Ground Looney, he does whatever Kerr wants from him, at the best of his ability, as consistently as what Steve needs.

Looney would have value on any team. In hockey his is the good stay at home defenseman who is not a big hitter. You don't notice him until he is gone. Then when teams start scoring more goals against your team you realize what you had.

Looney's a trooper. Hard to believe he's only 25 years old.

Unless some team decides to steal him away he and Wiseman will likely be our main center rotation for the next 5 years min.

Yeah, that is probably the most amazing stat of all. He's the oldest 25 year old ever.
