New variant is on its way here from South Africa, if not here already.

Really sucks. It has 30 mutations instead of Delta’s 2 mutations and no one knows if the vaccines will hold up against it. This is going to take years at this rate. I might have to become an RV’er instead of a globe hopper.

Katelyn Jetelina, aka Your Local Epidemiologist, on the new variant. This was written ahead of the WHO meeting today, which officially designated it as a "variant of concern" (there is evidence that it is a threat), but reviews what we know about it so far:

Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In practice, there is.

Yesterday I was lying; today I'm telling the truth.

I’m already embracing the RV. There’s this show on one of the cable stations that follows couples (and their families) go RV shopping. It’s perfect for climate change migration to boot! There are really nice ones.

We need to shut down airports for all international travel now before it’s too late.

B.1.1.529 was first discovered in Botswana on November 11. It was then quickly identified in South Africa three days later and identified in two cases in Hong Kong. This morning Israel and Belgium announced that they have cases. The Belgium case was a young, unvaccinated woman who developed flu-like symptoms 11 days after travelling to Egypt via Turkey. She had no links to South Africa. This means that the virus is already circulating in communities. As of yesterday, 100 cases have been identified across the globe (mostly in South Africa). As I write this, no cases have been identified in the United States.

61 people who were on a flight from South Africa to Amsterdam brought the Nu variant with them to the Netherlands.

There is no containment happening. The world is a sieve and the only places that can firewall are island nations that have a singular approach like New Zealand did earlier. The next level is extreme diligence like South Korea has shown. After that, it’s a sharp drop-off in terms of preventing the spread of any new mutation.

The U.S. is around 60% vaccinated and I can tell you most Floridians think the pandemic is over. They don’t get it. Even the vaccinated are not masked up in tight quarters any longer. So when this takes off here it will spread fast.

If people would at least mask up it would help enormously, but Americans are arrogant and careless.

I had to hit the supermarket yesterday and I thought I noticed a significantly larger group of shoppers were wearing masks. I was actually presently surprised.

I’m getting my booster shot on Monday but that’s not going to change my behavior this winter. I have neither the desire nor need to go to an indoor gym, restaurant/bar, concert, sporting event, etc.

What else can we do? Everything outside of our own behavior is out of our control

And here we go ….

https://www.cnn.com/2021/11/27/world/omicron-coronavirus-variant-intl/index.html?utm_source=pocket&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pockethits

By midday on Saturday, two cases were confirmed in the United Kingdom and dozens more suspected in the Netherlands, Germany and the Czech Republic. The top infectious disease expert in the United States, Dr. Anthony Fauci, also said it was possible the new variant was already in his country but was yet to be detected.

The vectors were fairly predictable as Africa has the lowest vaccination rates. The continent is the petri dish now for covid mutations.

The world needs to get on the same page and take some of those profits bursting the coffers of big pharma and push to get Africans vaccinated at cost.

One obstacle is the covid pill’s early data suggests it is a bust at 30% efficacy so they need shots

The big problem with Africa is the disinfo there is probably worse than anywhere else. Millions of people there really do believe Bill Gates wants to control them with vaccines. They have a major anti-intellectual trend there that rivals America’s anti-science crowd

One piece of good news. Garland is going to actively prosecute MAGA scum who get violent on flights over having to wear a mask.

Last thing people should have to contend with these days is boarding a plane and having to deal with these holes

If NYC is "liberal", then I can't imagine what you're dealing with in Florida. I just figured out that my MAGA cousin who lives out in Suffolk County (MAGA Land) and works for the MTA/LIRR in a union job (yes, the unions has balked at the mandate and NYC/NYS won't mandate their workers bc they're severely understaffed right now) okie-doked me on his vaccination status. He claims he was vaccinated once but "got very ill" from it and didn't go back for his second jab. This is the guy who showed up at my dad's funeral and kissed and hugged me and then sat next to me at lunch while we spoke face to face for over an hour. :noway:

That sucks. The go-to move will be claiming they felt they were coerced into lying

Big shoe just dropped

Mark Meadows is complying with the subpoena and has turned over documents to the Jan. 6th Committee and will appear. Schiff said they will determine if he remains in compliance as they go along so they are turning the screws tighter

Meadows was the conductor from the WH. He knows almost everything connected to plotting the insurrection. He’s in deep waters now, especially since he is also likely to be indicted by the GA Grand Jury for his other role in election tampering there.

It’s getting very real for the Orange Tumor
