BigDan245 wrote:People keep saying the NBA is keeping players out to stop transmission....Where is the data on that? All the NBA is doing is infecting everybody because players aren't testing positive the night of the game. So in reality, the NBA policy is helping nobody. It isn't helping players avoid getting covid and it is keeping everybody out of these games.

Please somebody tell me the upside of their policy.

Just to add something, what players from the 76ers haven't gotten covid? What players from the Cavaliers haven't gotten covid? What about the Lakers? Like seriously this policy isn't stopping anything. It's absolutely pointless. Guys are getting it no matter if they sit guys out of not. The testing isn't keeping these guys safe because inevitably they are getting it anyways.

Ben Simmons?

Basically...That's what I'm saying....Sitting these guys out isn't stopping the others from getting it. So in theory the reason you sit guys is to stop the transmission. But it reality, it isn't working. So the protocols aren't working.

I'd just like somebody to tell me and others why these protocols are effective. You can't say it's to stop it from spreading because that's just false as you can see from everybody else in the league getting it.

How many people in the work force are currently working jobs where you are tested weekly for COVID? I think most companies are not doing this.

The 'exception' when it comes to sports is this. How many of those people working jobs where they are not tested for COVID, travel between cities each week and spend hours next to 5/10/20+ random new people at the 'new city' breathing on them, touching them, etc...?

There certainly is a different element of 'spread' and contact spread when it comes to sports than it comes to most other professions. Even professions that may be 'travelling' to other cities for work.

We're talking about a group of 400 players. That is not going to effect the country as a whole. I don't buy the whole 'community risk' or whatever.

No one is forcing the players or anyone to attend the games. You do so at your own risk. If you're worried about getting Omicron, stay at home.

It's been 2 years of this. We all seriously need to move on and lead normal lives and adapt. By 'we' I mean everyone who is so concerned as things here in AZ have been normal for awhile now

This is all baffling anymore. Need some more government checks and corporate bail outs.

It’s either time to do that or do a week or two long shutdown while the powers that be look at a new policy.

Thing is... with Omicron here, the delay does nothing. These players aren’t getting admitted. It’s inevitable outbreak will occur once they start again.

Point is by then they hopefully have an organized policy in place to allow asymptomatic players to play within reasonable guidelines.

But all players are vaccinated, President Biden have said not so long , if you are fully vaccinated you are protected from the virus :P

Let's not go here. This thread is enough of a handful without bringing politicians and the ensuing political debate into it. -b

So, are we thinking vaxed/boosted players with no symptoms should just stop getting tested and be allowed to play? I could get with that.

But then the spread will be completely uncontrolled and may lead to even more problems...

There won't be any shutdown. People in the United States won't tolerate it anymore. Europeans are pushing back on it too. The Biden Admin and Fauci are starting to change the messaging about pushing for boosters, mask wearing and keeping hospitalizations/deaths very low over zero-COVID. Also they are mentioning the viral pill which can be the game changer.

Simple thing is to do is get vaxxed and boosted, mask up in high risk situations. I saw Spider-Man last night. I wore my mask the whole time I was there. I dine at restaurants which is a risk but I'm willing to take. I'm vaxxed, I feel safe and I'll mask accordingly as my risk assessment. This is where we should be at.

The NFL and NFLPA are throwing in the towel and basically dumping the measures as players are not getting severely ill. Time for the NBA and NBPA to start looking at this as well. I 100% expect MLB to have no measures in place with most likely a shortened season. Time to make tough choices.
