This poll is the only thing preventing me from leaving this board forever. Nice to see a little sanity here.

If the NBA really wanted to cash in on its christmas day cash cow, they should have paused the games until christmas day.

Now its looking like NBA will be trolling the world with a g-league christmas special.

Silver just went on ESPN and basically ruled out pausing the season. Sucks to see so many teams decimated by covid absences but still the right call IMO.

Reminder not to confuse the amount of people with the loudness of their voices. Especially when you're up against literally the entire establishment lol.

I just heard Biden's read out and basically nothing new announced besides from the typical fearmongering and social divisive BS, pretty weak at this point if you ask me. No lockdowns announced

My takeaway is that after the holidays economic boom has been thwarted to satisfaction (the whole point of this last issue of Coronovela, IMO) normalization should regain its momentum, NBA included. :D

Please avoid bringing politicians and the ensuing political debate into this thread. That kind of stuff goes on the Current Affairs board. -b

The NBA regular season is for diehard basketball fans...I try to watch every night. But let's not act like it's the most competitive regular season in professional sports. If there are some games with some questionable players playing in them, in the grand scheme of things, who cares? As long as the season ends and there are 8 teams in each conference that make the playoffs, that's all that matters.

From a pure policy point of view, it would be foolish to impose a lockdown over Christmas. Just like the people saying that the NBA would delay a lockdown till after Christmas, it would make sense that a government lockdown would be delayed until then.

This will be the first time in I don’t even know how long that I will not be watching any of the Christmas Day games. The way the NBA has handled this has been laughably bad. And on top of that, they have no intention of pausing the season. Just idiotic and laughable way of handling this entire thing.

He’s handled things extremely poorly. Letting the Raptors Vs Nets game go on last week was pure stupidity. Nets what’s 2 guys test positive 1 hour before tip Off and they let the game go on.

Like they didn’t realize that there was a very legit likelihood that it would’ve spread by playing that game?

And that’s just 1 example. There have been many examples of the league handling this poorly

Silver is totally destroying the NBA... this testing needs to stop immediately for vaccinated players and let them play. Period.

He would have to negotiate with the players to change the rules. The players likely don't want to cancel any games if they can help it.

Thank goodness the Warriors didn't go to Scotiabank Arena. At least 1 game on Christmas will be watchable. *knocks on wood*

Adam Silver on ESPN:

“(There are) no plans to pause the season,” Silver said. “We’ve of course looked at all the options, but frankly, we’re having trouble coming up with what the logic would be behind pausing right now. … It seems for us that the right and responsible thing to do, taking all the factors into consideration, is to continue to play.”

Silver said that very few of the individuals around the NBA who have received a booster vaccination shot have experienced breakthrough cases, and most of those cases have been asymptomatic. Silver estimated that about 97% of NBA players are vaccinated, but only about 65% have been boosted — the league is hoping to push that number higher.

Asked if the league has revisited the idea of mandatory vaccinations for players, Silver said it hasn’t been broached recently. “I’d rather focus on the 97% than the 3%,” Silver said, referring to the league’s vaccinated players. “Incidentally, many of the 3% have now gotten COVID, so they’ve developed antibodies. To me, the focus right now is on boosters for the 97% of players who have been vaccinated.”

The NBA isn’t prepared to allow vaccinated players who have asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 to play, but is “actively” exploring ways to reduce the amount of time players have to spend in the protocols. “I think (medical experts are) already realizing that you can move away from the 10-day protocol when you have players who are vaccinated and boosted,” Silver said. “It seems that the virus runs through their systems faster. They become not just asymptomatic but – more importantly – they’re not shedding the virus anymore.”

Most of the players testing positive this month have contracted the Omicron variant of COVID-19, according to Silver. “It’s beyond dominant in the league right now,” he said. “We’re up probably around 90% of the cases right now that we’re sequencing are Omicron.”

Silver sucks. He is screwing the fans for short term profits. I hope the ratings will suck and he will hear from ESPN. Either you postpone or stop testing asymptomatic players. If you think it's not safe to stop testing those players, then it is not safe to play with so many players infected.

Im very curious if the NBA would take the same poll as the poll on this thread right now with the players, what the results would be. I think the results would be similar to what we are seeing right now on this thread.

And if that is the case, let these guys just play and do their jobs. Any players or coaches that dont feel comfortable, that is perfectly fine and let them choose not to play (not fine them).

What are folks expecting Silver and the NBA to do? It feels as though 75% of your social circle has COVID right now if you live in any of the big coastal cities. Omicron spreads fast - of the instances I know that someone has tested positive, everyone in the room (either a get together or in a conference room at work) has also gotten it within 3 days. You can pause the league for 2 weeks but it's not going to do anything. The players won't sit at home and isolate so it's not going to burn out that way. Even if they did, Omicron is going to circulate for a while and we'll be back right where we started once games resume.

NBA is probably looking at this saying it's better to have this run through the league now than in 1-2 months from now. When full vaccination and even a booster doesn't keep you from getting it, you are going to get it unless you isolate.

I think the NBA has a societal responsibility to get players into quarantine when they are positive, regardless of symptoms. Yes, they will all likely be fine as will most of us, but this thing has killed almost a million people. They need to be good corporate citizens.

What they need to stop doing is the 10 day quarantine. We don't base someone no longer being sick on PCR tests for any other disease - I don't know why we are doing so for COVID when we've had 2 years of data. With asymptomatic cases, players should be out 2-3 games tops.

This requirement to sign players to 10 days to replace players with covid is bs. Nets are missing almost everyone that matters and they are going to have to keep playing with d league and retired players. Lol. Vs a team that might have none or one guy out. That’s not fair.
