I don't think you can pinpoint a time and say -- well in 2 weeks (?) -- we have everyone back. If the league were to shut down, what rate of players would they need to be healthy to continue and could they guarantee they were testing players? And would they need warm up days then? It just gets so messy and with no obvious time to restart. And all that is ignoring how much financially it would hurt to do that.

I wouldn't be surprised however is some regions start banning crowds at games, or reducing what has been allowed.

Long term they can not start the season at the begginning of peak season. Start it earlier or later. The quality of the product suffering has a financial impact are fans going to stay engaged at the same rate.

I think if the NBA was going to shutdown, they would have had to do it a couple of weeks ago. At this point there are a set of teams that have had to play 5+ games with seriously crippled rosters and it would be tough to tell those teams that just as they are getting healthy (and other teams are taking a hit) that now the league will postpone/cancel games.

Wondering how many people actually thought Ben Simmons situation would have lasted until now?

me. Or at least I'm not at all surprised.

I never though Morey was going to take the crap deals this board insisted he'd have to or that he was scared of bad press or ticking off Embiid or any of the other reasons he had to trade him for CJ or whatever. Despite the narrative, Ben is too good a player to just give away and even if they lose this whole season, that contract still has a long time left.

I'm not buying today's reporting that this will be resolved by the deadline either. I think unless a team budges on a "star", this goes into the off-season.

I didn't have a date in my head but I'm certainly not surprised it has lasted this long.

This is an extremely unique situation where a young, all-star to all-nba level player, in the beginning of their prime, on a long-term deal, is trying to get out of a situation where he is playing next to an MVP-level player...

Ya know, I actually realize Kyrie did the same thing.

When do you think he gets traded? In a year or 2?

I'm not surprised that Morey is willing to go this route. The question I have is how long ownership, Doc Rivers, and Embiid stay onboard with the strategy. At some point I expect one of the major stakeholders to decide enough is enough. As the trade deadline gets closer I am curious to see if Morey is forced to make a deal.

I agree with Chuck that we shouldn't be surprised that its not done yet.

I still think he's gone at the deadline, which is when people get serious. It will be for less than 76rs fans want. I can't imagine this drama continuing in the off-season. You do that and you will be dealing with two disgruntled stars (adding Embiid) instead of one.

Morey is really good. I see them getting a good return if not at the deadline at the draft. That’s the reason none of the piddling deals have happened.

I feel like this is a minor but totally unnecessary shot at Sixers fans. In all reality, it will be exactly the same as most trades. Sixers fans will think they didn't get enough and fans of whatever team acquires him will think they gave up too much. Until two weeks after the trade when both fan bases convince themselves their new players are awesome and they totally ripped off the side. Singling out Sixers fans in this dynamic seems misplaced.

I think its interesting that there are various stars taking a hit to their value like brown, dame and beal that keeps moreys dream alive for a star for star trade. Will be interesting if those other teams give in at the deadline

I thought that he'd be gone by December 15th, or at least he'd be back on the court giving less than inspired effort. I'm not seeing the end game here for either party. It's kind of gone too far already IMO.

I think most of us thought this would be resolved by now... but here we are. As mentioned elsewhere, it's becoming increasingly clear Morey wants to wait until the summer and see who shakes loose.

Unless WSH or POR decide to fold their hand at the deadline, I don't see a resolution this season.

Pretty sure the Paul-Westbrook deal had a lot to do with Morey's resignation from Houston. It's something that would've almost certainly would have been touched on when talking with Sixer ownership about a new job.

Morey has 4 years left on his deal, coincidentally the same amount of time Ben has left.

Cavs are very close to the luxury tax. Instead of waiving a player on a partially guaranteed deal (strong candidates are Valentine and Davis), they might ask the Lakers to take that player back and waive him, even if it costs them cash or a 2nd. Lakers would still save money regardless.

if Ben Simmons doesnt get traded this season...76ers end up keeping him and firing Doc Rivers.

Lance back with the Pacers even on just a hardship deal makes me happy. Barea not getting one from Dallas makes me sad.

Memes and all aside, he should've been signed for some time now. The team has clearly lacked aggression and have been unable to get fans interested.

I can also guarantee he's better than Wanamaker was for us, so there's that too.
