At 9-12 where do you stand?

Tank World Order: Hope the team continues its downward trajectory so that they can add another top lottery pick talent to the core of Barnes and OG?

Barnes aint going to leave because we didn't make the playoffs in his rookie season. We will be in playoffs next season, and each season after that. Barnes will be playing in playoffs for 6 of his min 7 years here.

Just enjoy the ride.

TWO keeps moving the years back. First it's only a one and done year to tank so we can fluke in and get a top end talent....done. Then it's 2 years so we get a running mate for Barnes. Next it's 3 years so we can get some nice role players. Next thing we know it's 7 years and Scottie has become a superstar and is tired of losing and demands out to go to LA.

Then we start the process all over again. It's complete insanity.

Oh look more ridiculous exaggeration!

How is it exaggeration? It's playing out exactly as we speak.

How do you tank and then magically make the playoffs the next year?

How many tanking teams have done that in the entire history of the NBA?!?!?!?

This isn't a plan it's a child's fantasy.

he will be here for 8-9 years anyway. so worst case he pulls a KD but then again OKC should have won a title with their 2-3 year tank. And if Klay Thompson doesn't drill 50 triples in that one playoff game, he probably is still there lol.

We tanked in Tampa to get Barnes - as he improves, along with OG, FVV, and PS, PA, we will become better and get into playoffs next season.

Now apply the above statement for this year - we get another lottery level talent to add to that core.

Next season, We build a better bench and having all that young talent organically improve another year. We will definitely be in the playoffs (low seeding) next season. After that, we continue to organically grow from player improvements, and move up to higher seed playoffs.

Is it also a fantasy to think:

A) The Raptors go on this magical playoff run beyond the second round?
B) The Raptors draft a player outside of the lottery completely/low end lottery and that player becomes elite as Pascal and Senior hit their prime?

A) If IMO Raptors could go beyond the 1st round this year, I wouldn't be on TWO.
B) That could happen but I think we have better the chances of hitting an elite player higher in the lottery, in this final season which we still could tank. Next season and beyond, it will be out of the question (unless something goes wrong horribly wrt health) as our young core grows.

I'm not the one advocating for tanking. I'm not the one promoting an extreme approach.

People need to realize that even 4 years of making the playoffs and winning is (historically) still not enough to retain Barnes.

I remember that feature, and was looking for it.

Got it sorted out now, thankfully. Love going back and forth, don't enjoy things when it gets personal. Geezus Christ, it's an internet message board.

This is what I'm talking about re: TWO you guys don't have any sort of plan or logic that includes retaining the star the tankers have been screaming about here for 18 years.

You are forgetting one big criterion in all these:

"We are here to win a championship"

That means we need a core that offers a high enough ceiling to reach that level of competing for championships. Not just a core of "good enough to make playoffs".

Is the current core (Barnes+OG+FVV+PS+PA) enough for competing for championship? I think it's not likely, but another year of asset accumulation through the draft (hence the hope to tank for higher draft slot) will boost that chance a lot.

Right now my entire discussion is based on: how can you tank and retain Barnes?

So far the answers have been: "Organic Growth".

That's it. That's all. Hopium.

I am making the assumption that Barnes will resign long term, and combined with the high lotto pick(s) and Senior and/or Pascal OR wheatever they potentially yield in a trade, that could be a bigger impact.
