Actually, I'll answer my own question, the game winning 3 may really be his career turning point.

I'm reading this "Winner Effect" book by Ian Robertson. Winners associate their last win (in RJ's case, his game winning 3) to their environments and surroundings (arena, fans, arena announcer, lights), so when they come back to the same environment (same arena, same court, fans, same arena announcer, same lights), the reward and motivation parts of his brain will increase more androgen receptors. Androgen receptors are receiving stations for testosterone.

RJ has been experiencing testosterone surge in these same environments, which made him less anxious, more aggressive, and gave him a higher pain threshold. Testosterone makes one mean and tough.

I was only halfway paying attention I just checked the box score I see IQ was +17 and Randle was +16 so I imagine they did very well so they’re my players of the night. Great win let’s go Knicks!

its a pointless individual game stat because obviously it doesn't take into account happenstance of if you were just out there to be out there with a guy carrying the team.

But over a much larger sample size happenstance does go away and you get a truer impact of the statistic. But that is the case for any analytic. Small sample sizes can skew anything to look worthless.

The whole Randle/Obi issue is mainly on Thibs.

Randle only made one shot all game and then he took out Obi after three minutes of play in the fourth to put Randle back in. And this is after many many instances of Thibs overly catering to Randle. Knicks fans can plainly see what’s going on.

That’s why the boos for Randle quickly transitioned into chants for Obi. Thibs needs to free Obi and a good amount of the tension will be reduced.

Obi needs to do more than just stand on the 3 pt line (where he cant shoot from) and catch some lobs tho if he wants more time. Some of that is on Thibs for sure with the lack of P&R for him, but it’s also on Obi for not being as aggressive lately. I know Thibs is screwin with him tho. Happy he got to come back in and get a few more dunks and hear his name chanted. Maybe that will get him goin again.

And I know it’s chit on Julius time, Im one of his biggest critics, but I liked that he kept things moving today to let RJ go off. Didnt hold the ball. Winning cures all tho. If we lost he’d be getting crucified no doubt, but hard to be mad when they blew Pop out. 2 points is obviously not sustainable tho and he’s not getting 25 mill for that. Seems like he’s on his way out, or should be.

I honestly think Obi stands out there by design. I refuse to believe that a guy who moves so well without the ball would just stand in the corner... piss poor coaching imo.

Didn't want to be aggressive because he knew what the reaction would be if he started missing shots.

He did - and so he basically stopped playing.

Not that I dislike this more muted version of Randle - but you don't pay someone $117 million for that.

it's a terrible stat in small and large sample sizes. ive seen people use it for frank in large sample sizes and in the end it proved nothing, just like with randle today.

Obi def looked real pissed in the 4th tho. More than Ive ever seen him. The short hook is obviously really getting to him now. Had an even shorter than normal hook in the 4th tonight, even with Julius not doing as much. Garbage time and the Obi chants may have saved him from the ledge lol.

Gotta suck to have a coach who always takes you out no matter how well u play and doesnt seemingly believe in you. Obi hasnt been the same since the “backup QB” comments. Wanna see him play mad tho, and not lose confidence even if it’s hard. Something gotta give with him and Julius.
