I wish I got the reference (I really don't).

I could also be just a bottle of Jameson.

RJ started the game in Boston very well too and only had the wind knocked out of him after Randle dragged him and his other teammates back into the basketball abyss.

That's what season averages (i.e., a large sample size) are there to show. And those numbers show that he hasn't been good at all this year, despite a handful of great performances.

RJ had arguably the two best games of his career in the past week, so hopefully it's a sign of things to come. But he can't follow up one good game with two stinkers every time. So let's re-assess his game in February or so.

He had never looked this comfortable as a shot creator until this Spurs game, so let's hope this game is something he can build on. It can't be understated that he's looked better without Randle on the court too.

You eat stats for breakfast so what are his last six games? Wasn’t it something like 3 good games, followed by one mediocre game with a game winning shot and then two good games again? For the NBA that’s more than a hot hand, but probably consistency even for the best players. It’s taken from an admittedly small swath of games, but he has been good for more than a week now.

I don't have my machine of facts in front of me (the one that makes me the objective and cultured pundit that I am) but in the last 4 games, RJ had two great games, and two bad ones, game-winner aside.

His efficiency over the last week is right around league-average, which is progress, and which is encouraging since he's had more shot creation responsibilities.

But as you said, 4 games (or even 10 games) is a small sample-size. Tim Hardaway and KP both had hot stretches (KP's lasted a month) that turned out to be pretty flukey in the end.

this was a very good night for rj but again it was against a bad team missing a bunch of guys to covid. so it's hard to tell how real it is or not. the most encouraging thing is he's hit the 3 well for 5 games in a row now. in the 2 games vs boston he shot awfully because they play better defense than these bad teams and so getting to the rim is a lot harder, but he was still 4-9 & 2-4 from 3.

He honestly didn’t have a horrible game, he moved the ball, set screens (even though they were lazy), and played better defense. Most importantly he wasn’t forcing up shots and let RJ do his thing.

In my opinion he was a net positive by staying out of the way.

I think if he had this game but didn’t come off like he was sulking and low energy it wouldn’t have been so bad.

Thibs also put him in a bad situation. No way he should be in with a 20+ lead with everything going on. Our coach has zero feel for real-time basketball.

Julius has no game face
Juilus reacts to everything with that face
He argues with the refs while his teammates hustle upcourt
He gives the evil eye to his teammates when he’s the one who blew his defensive switch
He hangs his head like baby Kevin Knox after his misses

I actually agree with you, but it's worth noting that RJ is averaging almost 20 ppg (19.6) since the beginning of December. He's still inconsistent as hell, but things have been trending in the right way. He went through an awful slump in November, but started to come around again before COVID protocols derailed things a bit. Seems like he's back on track again, so we'll see how he looks the 2nd half of the year.

Let’s not forget there was a rumor RJ was ill long before he entered covid protocols. Maybe he had an internal issue that sapped his energy or there was an actual lingering injury. We may never know, but if that is true and he’s healthy now, then the rest of the season will be easier to make an assessment of his actual trajectory

RJ started off slowly last year and came on. It was just a mistake to write off his season after 15 bad games. It's ok. You are all forgiven.

The ideal would be to find a Randle trade that brings in either a low-usage stretch 4 or a stretch 5.

So then we can see more PNR action with Mitch or Obi as the roll man.

This ISO Randle madness has to stop. The league has adjusted, these possessions are not good for anybody.
