NFL Playoff Picks Competition

Post#1 » by bwgood77 » Wed Sep 8, 2021 4:13 pm

Hey all, once again we will be having the NFL Playoff Picks competition for all of RealGM forum members. Not only do you pick the winners of games, but there are prop picks

It only takes a couple minutes to join and also to make your picks each week, and you can see how you do against fellow forum members as well as experts. It adds an extra interest to the weekend playoff games, so hopefully people join in and participate to make things fun.

When does it start?
Register and submit your entry no later than the first game of the NFL playoffs - Saturday, January 15th, at 4:30 pm ET, but preferably sooner.

- --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - ---
How to Play?
1. Join group. Pick an entry name that matches your RealGM username. If you don't already have an account, you can click on "Play Now for Free" and it will ask you to log in or create an account and you can create account there. Many participants use their realgm username for their espn account and their contest entry name.
2. Check your user settings here. Enable Group email and Reminder Email, so you don't miss picks any week.
- --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - ---
Rules
[*] Games and props should be posted by Tuesday or Wednesday of the week prior to games.

[*] Lock-time. All entries will use a rolling lock which allows a player to pick any game that has yet to kick off. Selections submitted after the deadlines are considered invalid, and no points will be received. It is good to make preliminary picks a few days before the games and adjust your picks leading up to the games as you see fit to eliminate the chance of forgetting to make any picks that week at all.

[*] Overall tie-breaker - higher number of points scored for Week 17.
- --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - --- - ---
Competition
Beat the Commish Champion
The player with the highest number of correct picks throughout the season wins the title.

Each correct winning pick will receive one (1) point. Points are not lost for incorrect picks. Picking every game, every week is essential.

Big thanks to Dirk for the layout.

makubesu wrote:What kind of strategies do you guys use when the spread is under three points? Suppose you like team A slightly more than B, but they’re -2.5. Do you stick with your instinct about the winner? Or take the points because if it’s the incredibly rare 2 point loss you’re still good.

I stick to the instinct of the winner. If it's a toss up, I will take the underdog, especially if they are at home. A lot of people like to take home underdogs anyway, especially if the spread is over 7 for the road team as a favorite, because often even if there is a discrepancy between teams, it is close. Of course there are blowouts too. I do wonder if blowouts are less common in week one though with more healthy players and every team confident going into the season. I also hesitate taking rookie QBs, especially if the other team has a good pass rush, and even moreso in week one, because the field and open receivers won't look anything like in college and they will be under far more pressure. Especially the QBs who came from great colleges who likely had a huge advantage in overall talent in pass protection and receivers. I think I took Jax but perhaps should rethink that one especially as a road favorite, though they are playing Houston. Tyrod is a ball control QB though so they may just try to run it and do short passes to eat up the clock and move down the field.

My strategy is to pick randomly and I always finish ahead of Howard and Froob. So feel pretty happy.

Extending the invite to former players.

I demand that Dirkfortyone be brought before the inquisition. His 53-27 record is obviously the work of witchcraft.

I'm finally gaining some ground on him this week but I see your week is going about as good as Dirk's.

Looks like you vaulted up to 2nd this week and are right on his tail.

Just ten more points! But my guess is thanksgiving adds some chaos to the pool

Yeah, been watching us both climbing. Nice 3 way race there. Nice comeback for both of us. I thought picks were hard this week while making them.

Funny Chargers were up 17 going into 4th, blew the lead, then take a 4 pt lead late, then get ball back on Pitt 2 and down it 3 times to end the game and were favored by 4.5.

Of course I picked the Chargers and often don't...like last week I picked the Vikings. I think I picked against them in all their losses and probably at least 1 or 2 wins.
