GTJ cannot be offered an extension, so he too will test FA 2023.
Barnes is 25% of cap even if cap goes up with TV deal.
So that likely mean we are not going to give Siakam a max extension based on % of cap in summer 2024. Barnes 25%, Siakam 25%...

If Fred keeps playing at this level, he will get a max extension next season from the Raptors that other teams cannot match. Because of years of service it will be the 25% max (around 30M). He will likely want a 2 years + PO structure so he can qualify for both the 30% max and the 35% supermax (if he wins an award) in 2025 with the new TV deal.

GTJ is not eligible for extension and likely will be worth around 25M in 2023 as an UFA if not more. Again he will probably want the 2 years + PO to get his next contract with the new TV deal.

With those two contracts, we will be 15M under the projected tax in 23/24 with only 7 players under contract. We could stay under the tax with mostly near minimum level players but it will be tight like this year.

In 23/24, Pascal, OG and Precious are up for extension. OG easily gets the 25% max and Pascal likely will be good enough to get a 30% max extension but that might be debatable. Precious it is hard to predict but I expect around the 15M mark.

We will be just under the projected 155M tax with 6 players under contract so definitely a tax team in 24/25 if we keep this core together. They will need to be a legitimate contender that season to justify that salary. After that we probably can only resign one of Fred or Gary in 2025 (likely Fred) and Barnes rookie extension will kick in.

let's give Bobby some credit here too, he probably understands the cap better than anyone else.

Our starting 5 will break all precedents and agree to each make 25 million per year for the good of the franchise.

In all seriousness....by this time next year we will have to decide if this is our lux tax group. I was skeptical before this season. Now I think there's a chance this is the starting 5 we bet on.

Barnes gets 25%
FVV gets 25%
Siakam 25%
OG 20%
GTJ 5%?

yeah I think two of the above will be gone when Barnes' 25% starts.

How does giving a player option to a guy outperforming his contract a genius move? What would have been more genius is if he had a team option.

I swear some people just want to stroke Masai's ego needlessly. The guy's already great with some just melting at the thought of him lol.

The tax line is well over the cap which is what the maxes are based on. So the numbers will easily go over 100% of the cap.

So it will likely be in 2025/26
FVV 30% of 25/26 cap
Barnes 25% of 25/26 cap
Pascal 30% of 24/25 cap
OG 25% of 24/25 cap

It is possible that Barnes 25% will be higher than Pascal’s 30% in absolute dollars depending on how high the cap goes up with the new tv deal.
