PIF, yourself, and a few others deserve to take a bow. Clarke is better than Hachimura IMO.
Bye bye Beal.

John Konchar

Memphis has all sorts of dudes who are tearing it up! It is not an accident. It is just superior scouting and player development. The best along with Golden State.
Bye bye Beal.

NatP4 wrote:Wow. Trayce Jackson-Davis was really impressive in that game. 18&11 on just 8 shots, really versatile defender.

Is he the Xavier Tillman of this class? Seems like one of those guys that is too undersized to be a true starting caliber NBA center, but doesn’t stretch the floor at all so you can’t play him at the 4.

Still per 40 minutes, he’s putting up almost 24&11 with 3.8 blocks, more assists than turnovers, and hardly ever fouling. Has an absurd 83.5 defensive rating.

Tillman has been a solid rotational player so far in the NBA, think TJD could be a really good value in the early 2nd round, and it’s not totally out of the question for him to develop a 3pt shot and show some NBA starter level upside.

I like Tillman, but he had better vision, defensive instincts, and more willingness to shoot from outside. Trevion Williams is the "Tillman" of this class
No, I see a bit more energy and athleticism than Tillman...:

If you can get Trez 2.0 locked into a 4 year rookie deal than just another surplus value. Guys like Williams, TJD, and Agbaji will be steals in the 40+ range because their contribution in year 3 & 4 of their rookie deals.

PIF, you, And others deserve to take a bow because he is definitely better than Hachimura IMO.

Clarke is having a great season. &, obviously, he was a bargain pick at #21 in the 2019 draft.

But, comparing him to his college teammate Rui just winds up creating heat rather than light. Better just to look at the kid on his own & appreciate what you learn:

1. if a kid puts up some of the best numbers overall in the history of college basketball, he's probably pretty good.
2. Static numbers -- height, etc. -- tell you nothing about dynamic results.

IOW, overall, what a kid can do with what he's got is a better guide to his potential than a list of what he's got.

The guys who took over the Memphis FO in the Spring of 2019 have done an incredible job. Aside from nabbing Clarke, they signed Tyus Jones at a bargain rate to back up Morant, they got DeAnthony Melton for next to nothing, they got an A+ in the 2020 draft, & they have some undrafted finds (Konchar esp.) with a ton of promise.

That 2020 draft was insane. Memphis signed Konchar after he went undrafted, traded into the early 2nd round to get Tillman, hit a home run picking Desmond Bane at 30th overall.

Their 2021 draft was sorta bizarre, but they have another three 1st round picks in this upcoming draft, so I’m not sure it matters.

Do we start paying attention to this kid from Kentucky that is now averaging 18.6 rebounds per36. This dude has had 8 games with 15+ rebounds. 4 games with 20+ rebounds.

Tankathon updated their board. Now have Benedict Mathurin top 5. Johnny Davis is at 7. TyTy Washington made a huge jump to 11.

It’s becoming clear: the draft has a surplus of big men. A premium has been placed on ball handlers.

They traded to get the #30 pick & pick Bane. So, even better. & they already had the #40 pick in R2, but traded up to get the #35 & pick Tillman. I.e.... they had a plan!

TyTy Washington is going to finish in the top 10. He absolutely dominated a really good Tennessee team yesterday. His TS is up to 59% while maintaining a 5.4-2.0 assist to turnover.

He’s still really old for a freshman, but he’s probably the best true point guard in this class. I’m not sure he even has any competition for that title.

Yeah, I'm starting to think we'd be best off trading our pick (plus one of our forwards) for one of the young guard on Sacramento. I'm sure we could pick a solid forward with our FRP, but he'd just sit on the bench.

Per Dickie V, KenPom rates him college basketball’s number one player.

Do the Lakers have a draft pick? Whoever they pick will come to DC eventually.

Just realized we have half of the LAL 2017 draft class right now.

He doesn't fit any archetype scouts are looking for, and he's 22, but he still should be a FRP, imo. Nobody rebounds like he does. He's built like a 6'9 moose, and he has the long arms you look for at center. He came late to basketball, so don't be sure that he can't develop an outside shot - even if he hasn't shown one. People assume quicker bigs will be able to score easily on him, but he is getting a decent amount of blocks and steals and is a better athlete than given credit for.

You are correct sir. I guess one way to get around it is make arrangements with Houston to take off the protections on the 23 R1 pick while converting it to our 24 R1.

...which is not a great idea, since the protections on it in '23 mean it may not go that year or any other year.

If you really think we don't need the guy we can get, picking at #9 (the usual!) for example, then trade down. There is value in every draft. No exceptions. Which you know as well as I do!
