Sell high.

If the goal is to tank for years to come, sure.

Mediocrity or tank, both aren't desired outcomes to me. I guess at least you will fill the arena with 45 win seasons. Having Fred as your team leader and extend him in 2023 will do exactly that.

Oh and I got the number wrong. He’s been shooting 32 percent (according to bballref) from the field during this stretch not 35.

34% shooting in his last 6. Since after the Utah game.

He is trending closer to his career average of 41% this season.

Totally on board. I’d even be on board with packaging him for Simmons. I was legit looking at Brunson today going….’I actually don’t think Fred is better’.

Wow. And this is why you don't use one game to judge a player. Brunson had little to do with FVV's shooting struggles tonight. He contested maybe 5 FVV shots all game (and-1 and made three plus a few misses) and forced one of FVV's 3 turnovers (a fast break pass that was deflected). FVV had about 10 open threes and a few wide open midrange jumpers tonight. He went 3/14 on those looks when he typically converts those looks at a 45% clip (or about 6/14). It was just a bad shooting night for FVV. That's it.

As if this thread couldn't get any better, you now have some posters advocating trading Fred.

Definitely lives up to their nickname, Treadmill World Order. Let's just trade all our good players entering their prime. Great idea guys.

The play in for what comment was more about hosting playoff games in Tampa where you get zero revenue.

Other than that, the article is pretty good. Although I guess Dave forgets that you're not necessarily a treadmill team when you have the youngest team in the NBA.

I like his points about all the players in our core showing development and our bench being 30th in the NBA. All of that is true.

I also like his point about getting some help before the deadline. I'd love a Miles Turner or Eric Gordon as long as it doesn't require Gary Trent

Why do some poster keep putting words in Masai's mouth? When Masai said playin for what, he did not refer to Tampa season only.

“This is all about winning a championship again. Everybody has forgotten what happened two years ago,” Ujiri said. “Yes, we won. Nobody cares anymore. We want to win another one. Not play in the Play-In game, not play in the playoffs. You want to win a championship.

“Everybody’s like, ‘why don’t you get in the Play-In?’ Play-In for what? We want to win a championship here.”

Ya if you want this team to get a lot better —> trading one of the core players is not something you can afford.

Heck even 2 lottery protected first rounders (2022 + 2024) + Dragic + Boucher + Birch + Flynn for Turner and Levert if the asking price came down for Indiana’s players and if the Raptors goal was to make a splash in the playoffs today.

FVV/Levert
GTJ
OG/Barnes
Siakam/ Champagnie
Turner/Precious

^rotation based on current minutes + new players.

I think Indiana is one of the teams where we can make a trade to get a starting quality guard and big man in one trade for the price of first rounders. Levert would come off of bench ofc. Barnes gets shifted to the bench because of Turner.

Just a sudden thought off the top of my head

He said he wants to win and he wants to put his team in a position to do that. That doesn't mean he doesn't see value in a play-in. It just means that last year due to the makeup of our roster and the circumstances that the team found themselves in (injuries/covid/Tampa), the play-in was not a viable option. Do you think Memphis is happy they got an opportunity to play in the play-in? They ended up beating Golden State and then getting the chance to compete against the Jazz. That is valuable experience for a player like Ja.

From my knowledge, Masai has never tanked. Even the big trades he's made he's always gotten back actual players as opposed to draft picks. For example, in the Melo deal he got back Felton, Chandler and Gallinari. That core ended up with a better record than what they had with Carmelo and the same amount of playoff success. With our team we made the playoffs in his first year and lost in the first round. Then we lost in the first round the following year. Did he tank? No, he continued to build the team and he continued to do so despite Lowry being 30 years old.

If this team is healthy, I'd be surprised if this team doesn't try to make the playoffs. I mean, you're seeing it now, we've been playing with a 7 man rotation with Birch and GTJ out.

No it wasn't has nothing to do with Tampa he literally said "play in for what", not play in for what in Tampa. He doesn't give two **** about the play in game. Masai does not want to be in the play in game. its a waste from his perspective.

The thing is, coming out a rebuild/retool, there will always be a season or two where we are 45 win team / 1st round exits, which is mushy middle but with (player development) momentum to the upside (towards championship contention). So it's ok, but I think for our roster, we need a bit more young talent from this upcoming draft, then next season we go compete year-in-year-out with our base of young talents.

Indiana should go full tank with Turner out and Sabonis out a week or 2 with a sprained ankle.

LeVert poured in 30 to beat the Lakers! :P

Okoro and Sexton (out for the year) for LeVert makes sense for both parties.
