He said he wants to win and he wants to put his team in a position to do that. That doesn't mean he doesn't see value in a play-in. It just means that last year due to the makeup of our roster and the circumstances that the team found themselves in (injuries/covid/Tampa), the play-in was not a viable option. Do you think Memphis is happy they got an opportunity to play in the play-in? They ended up beating Golden State and then getting the chance to compete against the Jazz. That is valuable experience for a player like Ja.
From my knowledge, Masai has never tanked. Even the big trades he's made he's always gotten back actual players as opposed to draft picks. For example, in the Melo deal he got back Felton, Chandler and Gallinari. That core ended up with a better record than what they had with Carmelo and the same amount of playoff success. With our team we made the playoffs in his first year and lost in the first round. Then we lost in the first round the following year. Did he tank? No, he continued to build the team and he continued to do so despite Lowry being 30 years old.
If this team is healthy, I'd be surprised if this team doesn't try to make the playoffs. I mean, you're seeing it now, we've been playing with a 7 man rotation with Birch and GTJ out.
