Mavericks are in no position to contend with their current roster. However this trade makes them a better team with Dragic + Watanabe coming in (both on expiring deals), and Bullock the only real rotational piece (not much of a player, he sucks) going out. The main reason the Mavs do this trade however is that this deal alone allows them to free up about 18mil in cap space. They can sign an impactful player over the summer to add to their solid core of Luka/Brunson/THJ/Porzingis. Then the Mavs can be a real playoff threat starting next season.
The Mavs also receive a 2nd round pick for parting ways with a couple decent prospects.

Pacers do this deal because they're getting a pretty nice haul for LeVert. A first round pick + two B level prospects. They also add Boucher and Bullock, both on team friendly deals, that they can flip elsewhere (to contenders) for picks (most likely second round picks).

Raptors part ways with two guys out of the rotation (Dragic and Yuta), Boucher (expiring) and a first round pick (lottery protected) and in return they get Caris LeVert (combo guard that can fits the bill perfectly - ball handler, great shooter, great playmaker) and also Burke who can be what we wanted Flynn to be this year.

Thoughts?

I'm still in the position where this team can't afford to cough up a 1st to improve the bench. We're better off drafting a LeVert or Bamba who seem to be popular lately.

LeVert's contract next year puts us in the same position to where we are right now - right up against the tax. Little room for signings and not being able to use the MLE without going into the tax.

especially because those players like Levert are 2023 expirings. We need cheap rookie contracts and longer control.

Is there a team with a l Malachi Flynn level centre out there, look for a PG?

I feel like we'll do a 1 for 1 type type deal like that.

I was thinking of Azubuike from Utah maybe. They really debated not picking up his option for next year so I'm guessing they aren't in love...draft 27, two spots ahead of Malachi. 7 foot with a crazy 7'7 wingspan from Nigeria. Not exactly burning up the g league though. Probably a scrub.
When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Please advise….

I wish we knew if Wiseman was any good. He really didn't prove anything in college (partly because of the Covid shutdown) or his rookie year. If he was, I would go ahead and trade OG for him and Kuminga. Warriors would LOVE to have a guy like OG. They're lucky they didn't have to face him in the Finals.

he's a traditional center...not the worst player to have as your 15th guy..but certainly not the position-less basketball the team is aiming for.

Funny thing is Flynn isn’t even one of “G-Leagues top guards”.

He’s shooting 30% from the field and has a 1:1 AST:TO ratio in the g-league. That’s horrific.

Nah we don't. We're more than an Eric Gordon away from contention so I really don't see the point in paying whatever the Rockets will ask for a guy that really doesn't change the team trajectory, short or long term.

I’d give anything but Scottie to get him. I’d do a package involving OG if that’s what it took

I'll personally drive OG or FVV to the airport for this guy.

why not FVV and a first?

Murray would be replacing Fraud. No way Fraud let's another PG come in and succeed on this team.

I’d do that in a heartbeat. Hell, I’d do OG + Fred for Dejounte + Poeltl

Dejounte
GTJ
Scottie
Pascal
Poeltl

That’s a damn good lineup and insane defensively

rockets fans are happy to do a dragic + draft compensation on the trade board. no one's giving up a first for taking on salary this year and the next; i'm sure dragic + srp should be enough.

I think he's another player that might be a weird fit with Siakam in the frontcourt because they're both better on the ball than off, and if we traded for him it would maybe be best if Siakam was the piece dealt.

I think we'd rather have Flynn than a "Flynn level centre" since that player probably is worse than our current centers and if Van Vleet missed a few weeks we'd give Flynn real minutes along with Barnes playing PG and Siakam playing it even more than he has currently.
