Untouchables
Trae Young (five years, $180.9 million remaining — poison pill for this year)
The only way Atlanta will trade Trae Young is if he requests out. That’s not happening and the Hawks aren’t moving him, as he’s the franchise cornerstone and the No. 1 player whom they’re building around.
Clint Capela (four years, $84.2 million remaining — not all guaranteed as there are incentives in his contract)
It’s not that Clint Capela won’t be moved before his contract expires, but he’s ineligible to be traded before the deadline passes because of the contract extension he signed prior to the start of the season. The Hawks won’t be able to move Capela until the offseason.
The likeliest candidate
Danilo Gallinari (two years, $41.9 million remaining, only $5 million guaranteed for 2022-2023 season)
One to watch
Bogdan Bogdanovic (two years, $36 million remaining, $18 million player option in 2023-2024)
Blockbuster starter pack
John Collins (five years, $125 million remaining)
Onyeka Okongwu (three years, $20.6 million remaining)
De’Andre Hunter (two years, $17.6 million remaining)
Jalen Johnson (four years, $12.9 million remaining)
Difficult to trade
Kevin Huerter (five years, $69.3 million remaining — poison pill for this year)
Kevin Knox (one year, $5.8 million remaining)
Lou Williams (one year, $5 million remaining)
Salary filler
Gorgui Dieng (1 year, $4 million remaining)
Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (one year, $1.7 million remaining)
Delon Wright (one year, $8.5 million remaining)
No real value right now
Skylar Mays (two-way contract)
Sharife Cooper (two-way contract)

Hawks general manager Travis Schlenk hopes the [Reddish] deal can lead to more wins.
“One of the reasons we wanted to do this trade a little bit earlier — I’ve seen some people say why wouldn’t they wait — we wanted to see if a little tweak would have an impact,” Schlenk said. “This gives us two, three weeks before the trade deadline to see if a small tweak would change the trajectory of the season, so by doing this early, it gives us a little runway to evaluate. Our hope is this will change the course of the season for us.”Re: Hawks Plan to Be Active at 2022 NBA Trade Deadline

Another season of John Collins having to deal with uncertainty?
John Collins on Hawks: 'I still would like to be a part of this team going forward'
John Collins: I’m still here, I still would like to be a part of this team going forward. And I would like to be utilized in the best way.
John Collins: I feel like I’m supposed to be one of the cornerstones and building blocks of the organization. You guys have bought into me and paid me and showed me that you guys want me here and care about me. I feel frustrated that I can’t produce more for you or have not been allowed to do so. It’s nothing of me being frustrated or asking for a trade.

If Gallo gets moved at the trade deadline, you gonna stick around this place or follow him to his new team's message board?
Galloisdaman wrote:Nice to see Gallo have a good game. He got off to a rough start this season. I read he won 6th man of December. I had no idea about that. Glad that he is starting to perform better. I know he is older and slower but if he gets his groove he could be a valuable guy off the bench playing 22 minutes and chipping in 12ppg-5rpg-95FT

For some reason I have not been following hoops that much this season but when I come I'd probably visit both boards.
My eyes glaze over when reading alternative stat (not advanced stat) narratives that go many paragraphs long. If you can not make your point in 2 paragraphs it may not be a great point.

Re: Hawks Plan to Be Active at 2022 NBA Trade Deadline
Bleacher ReportHawks Willing to Discuss Bogdan Bogdanovic at Deadline?
The Atlanta Hawks already traded Cam Reddish this month, but it doesn't appear they're done making moves.
Matt Moore of The Action Network reported the Hawks are "willing to engage" in Bogdan Bogdanovic trade talks. Forward John Collins has also been regularly mentioned as a potential trade target for teams ahead of the Feb. 10 deadline.
Injuries have limited Bogdanovic to 28 games this season, and he has struggled when he's been on the floor, averaging 12.0 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.6 assists. His field-goal percentage has dropped from 47.3 percent last season to 41.2 this season, which is highlighted by an 8.4-point drop (43.8 to 35.4) from three-point range. His struggles are emblematic of teamwide issues for the Hawks, who are 18-25 and rank as one of the season's biggest disappointments.
Bogdanovic is making a flat $18 million this year and in 2022-23, and he holds a player option at the same price in 2023-24. That's an overpay for his current level of production but right around the going rate if he can get back to his 2020-21 numbers. It's worth noting his pre-2020-21 stats give credence to the idea that last season was an outlier in terms of performance, particularly from three-point range.
That said, he's a solid secondary ball-handler who knocks down threes and isn't a complete minus on the defensive end. A team will bite on a deal if the Hawks' asking price is right.

It's no coincidence that the Hawks, who are looking for impact players, are considering moving one or both of the guys who are under long-term contracts.
A lot of the trade ideas I see around the internet look like "GOOD PLAYER for Gallo" or "GOOD PLAYER for Wright/Dieng." Those would be great deals, if the luxury tax weren't a major concern for the Hawks in 22-23.

The AthleticNBA Trade Deadline Roundtable
Q: What other teams are in all-out desperation mode here? Give me your shortlist of places where you’d be stunned if there wasn’t significant change.John Hollinger wrote:Well, I think we have to start here in Atlanta, where my Hawks just lost 10 straight home games after making the conference finals a year ago. Trae Young won’t be traded, and Clint Capela can’t be, but pretty much anything else seems like it’s on the table right now. I’d be shocked if Cam Reddish was the Hawks’ only midseason maneuver after the way this year has gone, and the weaknesses that have been exposed. If I had to bet, I’d say “Gallinari plus picks” makes an appearance in multiple outbound trade proposals for somebody, anybody, who can play competent defense.David Aldridge wrote:Certainly, Atlanta. That 2022 first the Hawks got from New York in the Cam Reddish deal will likely convey next year (it’s top-18 protected), giving Atlanta some significant ammo if it wants to make a blockbuster deal before the deadline.

Or when media are not objective
1 - He was the worst Net rating of the team so the team will better without him.
2 - Its not like the team was able to play with almost its full roster, so you can't judge anything. It would be totally amazing that pretty much the same roster goes from contender (while having more injuries than the other playoffs teams) to non-playoffs team. Except if your season is ruined with more injuries, it's nearly impossible
They just have to stay healthy, get in rhythm and once they find it back, they will be able to beat any team in the East, not that will, but will able, which was not the case at all during some weeks.
We can already watch that the defense is getting better

What kind of defender does Hollinger think is coming for "Gallinari plus picks"?

I don't know, but also don't care because I'm not sure if this team played 1 game this season with both Capela/Okongwu at C and Hunter.
If they all have played the majority of the season, it would be a problem, but knowing that, it's just stupid.
I can guarantee you that if these three guys are healthy, ATL defense won't at the bottom of the league. And don't need to be at top if the offense is.
If Schlenk trades picks, it has to be improving a spot, by getting a better player than the one currently with the team, he doesn't have to trade picks to fix a team defense or offense, because all the guys here are the same than last season and proved they can play both.

Yeah I figured Hunter would make a big difference for the defense. And Collins isn't too bad, is he? I'd think it's hard to play Trae and Gallo at the same time, though.

I think someone like Josh Hart would be perfect for this team.

JC needs to stop whining to the media and accept his role. Rebound, play D, catch and convert Trae's easy slams and hit his open threes at a good percentage. That's his role.
He seems to have delusions of being a star. He's not and not going to be. He needs to show up EVERY night and earn all that money

Re: Hawks Plan to Be Active at 2022 NBA Trade Deadline
Bleacher ReportFor Simmons to be dealt now, as his camp clearly hopes will materialize, Philadelphia has remained primarily engaged with Atlanta and Sacramento of late, league sources confirmed to B/R. The Kings have shown a willingness to take back Tobias Harris' contract in addition to Simmons. The Hawks, however, are uninterested in acquiring Harris in order to land Simmons at this time and have been searching for a third team to function as a trade partner, sources told B/R.
As the Sixers continue to hold firm in their lofty asking price, with that Harden-sized elephant always in the room, both Atlanta and Sacramento have emerged as strong suitors for Jerami Grant, sources told B/R. The Hawks and Kings join a long list of teams that includes the Lakers, Trail Blazers, Knicks, Jazz and Timberwolves among others.
While there's been no direct indication on particular trade frameworks for Atlanta's pursuit of Grant, the Hawks have grown more active in searching for a new home for John Collins, sources said, and Collins' salary works in a direct swap for Grant.

Not a chance. He's savvy. He addressed it because it's trade season.
He talked about it when LD said it 2 years ago. He was ASKED about it after Nate said it again.
