Naz Reid was one of the dark horses that I mentioned the Knicks should look at in the 2019 draft. As far as him as a starting C? Not sure he's any more of a starting C than Nerlens Noel is. Both guys have their good and bad. I do like Reid though and would love to have him on the team. I think if we keep Mitch that he'd be a better counterpart than Noel would be. He's definitely a whole lot cheaper than Noel that's for sure.
The Timberwolves are a tale of two teams. There is the solid 3 point shooting Wolves who are competitive with any team on any night, and then there are the bad shooting nights where we have too few scorers. Naz doesn’t play wel with KAT and KAT is playing a lot of minutes this year, so he is essentially wasted on our bench. I want us to acquire a difference making big like Randle and to use Naz Reid as well as draft capital the centerpiece of that deal. You guys would either have a new starting C or backup C who would be competing for the role. That said, Randle is your best player and I think we would probably need a third team to pull of any deal unless of course you guys are rebuilding in which case you would probably want the draft capital and expiring assets.
Hey not disagreeing. I like Naz a lot. Liked him when I saw him play for LSU. The thing about him that immediately stood out for me was that for a guy that was so big and so strong he has real light feet and excellent hands. Also he always plays with that extra emphasis to his game. Didn't realize you meant Naz as part of a Randle trade. Yeah may be worth considering IF the Knicks decide it's time to cut cord.
The problem I have with any Randle trade is that I don't see them trading him for a rebuild. Just really don't.
This front office may have more rope than the previous front office but at the end of the day James Dolan is still the owner and I can't see Dolan being sold on a "oh sorry boss, we're going to have to take a few steps back (rebuild)" ticket. Just don't. You don't hire Tom Thibodeau to rebuild, you hire him to win. That's what the Wolves hired Thibs when he was there and when they decided to rebuild they let him go. Thibs isn't going to develop young players unless by developing them he can win (see Bulls).
Also you don't stock your front office with proven veteran front office guys that you are paying a lot of money for (the Knicks have the most expensive front office in the NBA to go with one of the most expensive head coaches) to do a rebuild. They are all here because they sold Dolan on the notion that they can turn things around quickly.
I believe strongly the goal is to trade for a player to play with Randle, not trade Randle away for a rebuild (which is what Naz and picks get you). And if they are going to trade Randle (hey they might, every day things seem to get worse in the marriage) it's going to be for an established player that has the talent to take over the role that Randle was asked (unfairly?) to take.
So yeah a 3rd team is very likely necessary if the plan is for the Wolves to parlay Naz and picks into Randle.
PS: Before anyone else reading this says "there goes moo again, why does he keep supporting Randle?!?!" I'm not. I'm being realistic about what I think the current situation is and what are really fantasies and unrealistic expectations by way too many Knick fans.

I think Leon is more subtle with the way he moves, but I know Scott Perry isn't.
The positive reaction they ultimately got out of trading Porzingis probably sets them up to move Randle without getting severe blowback.

Just read James Harden is seriously going to test the free agent waters.
Hypothetically if we knew Harden was coming and we made a very aggressive trade for Dame, while keeping Rande who would be our 3rd option where he belongs. How far do you think that team goes
Lets say
Dame
Harden
Cam
Randle
Mitch

Did they really get a positive reaction though from trading Porzingis? The deal was mostly considered to be a win for the Mavs and a "so they finally draft a guy that can be a cornerstone and they trade him for, what did they get again?" move for the Knicks.
I don't think the blowback if they trade Randle will be from the fans (most seem to want to blame him for everything that's wrong) but rather the little gnomish guy who's opinion matters most that's running things...that and any player (and their agent) that may be thinking about the Knicks as their future home that isn't just looking for whoever pays the most.

Overpay. IDC. We're not going to attempt a long term solution in the draft or in FA. It's time to FINALLY address the starting PG position and this kid checks off so much of what I want in a PG.
It's time to swing for the fences for a long term piece as we build towards contention down the line.

As much as I would love to give Randle his walking papers. If this was possible I go for it too. I think it puts us in Championship conversation.

One crazy thought I had was trying to get you Siakam and you give us Randle. Siakam is too expensive for us but would probably work better with your system. Also I know Randle is having fan base issues.
I agree that your not well situated for a rebuild, especially after doing so well last year. That said, EF has been a disaster, Kemba is a borderline player at best (Thibs benched him,) Barrett hasn’t turned into the franchise player you guys were hoping for, and Obi is buried behind Randle. It is hard to see how you guys get significantly better in the short term. The reddish move helps, but I am not sure how much, (depends on how much money he wants.) My point is, as much as a rebuild sucks, the timing might be right.

What does a truly competent office cost, the one that would have drafted him in the first place?
Knicks should pay that

I’d do 3 if you believe in the kid. Trading picks for studs is a good move IMO b/c you want to trade dollars for quarters when you’re trying to build a foundation.

I feel like Harden would totally be open to signing with the Knicks if we had the space. and when he signs elsewhere next year, I guarantee you're going to hear that he had his eyes on the Garden but we shat the bed.

Quickley/Toppin, our pick this yr. If he's worth more than that you bail. I like Haliburton. I wish people listened to me as I told everyone the Knicks need to draft him but I'm not giving up the world to fix my mistakes. Just do better next time.

Harden probably would not sign with a cap-spaced team. In a new team, he only can earn 200M/4. If he re-sings or signs and trade with the Nets he can get 270/5.
