SPURS GAME DAY! GAME 49: SPURS AT ROCKETS, 25-1-2022, 7PM (CT)

Post#1 » by G R E Y » Tue Jan 25, 2022 9:55 pm

A quick, fortunately brief, trip to a state rival to exact some revenge and even the series. To that end, we have both a perimeter and interior challenge to deal with. Running back on transition D, ball pressure early and often as well as preventing easy passes inside are defensive keys, and making sure we start strong, push downhill, and impose our team-oriented game are O ones. We have to right our ship so we must make sure we control what we can the best way we can.

Same **** patterns to start - we are getting outhustled for O boards and already a couple of putback points for them, and DJ is telegraphing too-congested bounce P&R passes to Jakob that are getting picked off.

Also, what's his face, Timbit round head guard, is once again driving past every one of us to the rim at will...

Sengun is a player. If we were trying to win this year he would have been a much better pick than Primo...

1ST Q: SPURS 34

ROCKETS 23

We finished on a terrific 14-0 run for a double digit lead.

Tre was an absolute hound on the ball and it made a big difference in forcing them to make quicker lesser decisions.

Lonnie was fouled so hard you could hear the slap on his hand through the whole arena. No call.

I didn't like our start, sort of Sunday mode, but I loved our finish.

It largely had to do with more of our downhill play, and ball movement.

The harder we push, the better we play together.

We have to watch the rebounding in our end, and make sure we run back on D more intently.

Meh. We already have bigs who don't shoot 3s and are crafty down low. He's ok, but I haven't seen anything that spectacular from him. He will always rely on the ball being passed to him rather than initiating the O.

This is how we should be feeding Poeltl every game. We get him having confidence in doing this every night we will make a huge step forward.

Is there something I missed that got Jock in the doghouse?

Huh? WHO?????? Crafty down low???? Eubanks? Landale? Even Poeltl isn't good in the post. Landale can defend and shoot threes at least. Sengun can score inside and out and is a great passer. Needs more effort defensively though. He's not allowed to initiate with the ball yet because he is a rookie and plays the 5. I've seen more NBA talent from him only watching a handful of Rocket games than I've seen from Primo all year.

We can agree to disagree on him but Sengun is always going to be the guy whos career I'm gonna compare to Primos because we passed on him. He is 10x a more useful NBA player than Primo is right now. I'm not saying that will always be the case but it is right now. I really hope I'm wrong down the line for our sake though.

2ND Q: SPURS 66

ROCKETS 51

So that's two 30+ point Qs. We finish another Q strong on a 21-4 run. Solid.

Jakob has been a big difference maker. We're going to him almost every chance we get and are 36-26 points in the paint.

I like that we're pushing downhill more at them, and I LOVE the passing and movement to keep getting open plays at the rim. Twenty-one assists at the half!

I love that we didn't settle for too many long Js too early in the clock.

I love that we rotated very well on D and covered all the passing lanes well to stay with them and force a couple of shot clock pressure situations and misses.

We should be up 17 but Jakob missed that bunny late in the Q - and he knows it. Don't bring the ball down, Jakob, and you get that point.

We are great in making all our FTs 6-6 but we keep fouling them seeming each time they drive for 8-12 against.

Really everybody but Drew and Lonnie are scoring efficiently, but Lonnie is once again impactful defensively so I can't fault him for his shots. I really liked his one make, a smart quick drive left side off the glass.

Really like our pace and contesting. Just have to make sure we get the rebounds in our own end as they're up 10-6 in O boards. BOX OUT, and hustle for the ball, and remember long shot, long rebound.

We MUST make sure we keep up the pressure on them as they surely will want to come out quick and scrambling to get us to foul. Just play hard, focused, and poised, and DO NOT UP OUR PUSH at them.

I still dont understand that in 2022 the league still thinks its necessary to have those huge cameras that can zoom in on the Moon right under the basket for guys to trip over and potentially get hurt. Get them out of there...

And you know what's worse? Their **** timeout and half time court entertainment. I know there's a cowboy theme or whatever, but I had no idea how bad it could be. Like baby races are more fun.

DJ's struggling with his shot tonight from distance.

LOVE that Pop takes a timeout every time he sees a defensive breakdown.
