I would have preferred Abrams going too...but the dude is just a cap guy. He has no say on what players the Giants pick especially in the draft.

He is told what FA's we want to get and to make it work under the cap. Gettleman was on the hot seat and a GM on the hot seat is never a good thing.

https://youtu.be/T2oHAcOPvyU?t=438

Just look at this "behind the scenes" look where Abrams was talking about the offseason (I started it where he was talking). Specifically says what they did in the offseason was not ideal (renegotiating contracts and spreading out cap hits for FA to get lowers 1st years totals). Because they got approval from upper management.

Abrams isn't a scout he is a cap guy. The GM tells him who we are after and when that gets done he is told to work with the agent to make it fit under the cap. I didn't want him as the GM for sure but he's more of a contract guy and the cap problems are necessarily just on him. He was being told who to sign.

I already what he is role is.

He’s been a bad cap guy for a min because he has no backbone. You def don’t need a cap guy being the ultimate yes man. He basically knows the downfall of the teams ability to scale more than any other person in the FO. He needs to push back if he is a legit cap dude. There are plenty of cap guys who save the team from making dumb choices.

If he is being retained, I’m sure that would come from Mara saying it’s fine more than Schoen for the simple fact Mara is the only one who has a relationship with him. We know from a structural standpoint that role is easily replaced. Familiarity is not need by The GM for a cap guy. Abrams sucks. He has been around the far majority of all the years we sucked. What does that tell you… he is part of the stench of the last regime.

I don’t care if he stays or goes. The point was that if you want to point to anything that’s possibly from Mara is him not graham.

The Giants have to either fix Daniel Jones or replace him in 2023, and Schoen told me Saturday he’ll have to clear out $40 million from a bloated and mismanaged salary cap this spring.

“When we first got to Buffalo,” said Schoen, who worked for the Bills from 2017-’21, “we had $55 million in dead cap money we had to manage. We had a plan there, and we’ll have one here. We may have to make some decisions that hurt, but I do not want to kick the can down the road with the cap. I want to get it fixed.”

Schoen is smart—a bad team like the Giants needs to rip the cap band-aid off quickly so 2023 can be bright. (More about Jones in 10 Things, below.) I also think Schoen would be smart to look to deal one of their two high first-round picks (fifth or seventh overall) for future draft capital, so they could be in a pick-rich position to pick a quarterback if they’d be in the market for one in 2023.

Did you see this? Music to my ears!

But its crazy how **** of a situation DG left us...might go down as the worst GM in NFL history.

Expect like 40-50 MM in dead cap hit this year. They will be really young and look for them to be trading any vets worth a damn or cutting decent players just to preserve the cap later.

Next year will be rough but it will be needed heading into 2023 with a healthy cap.

No half measures.

Sorry, I hate this. Nice guy but what has he done? Team allowed a TD before half in like every game this year and we can’t get off the field on 3rd downs. Was looking forward to something different. This is a Mara rehire 100%.

100% huh? Smh lol

Yeah you have to burn it down completely. As long as Mara is good with eating all the dead money we should be good. The one thing about the NFL vs the NBA is that the NFL will def burn it down faster than an NBA team would..

Yes the benefit not having contracts that you can't get out of like the NBA. Bad deals in the NBA could be on your books for 5 years in the NBA. At least after a couple you usually can get out of them in the NFL. It just very difficult to be competitive with large amounts of dead cap on your books.

Your gonna have to want the giants to be legendary bad next season. To me it’s CJ or Bust. I’m not a fan of young.

Sadly I don’t think we will be legendary bad.

here is to hoping...and also hoping a couple other QB's jump into the convo as well.

Yeah but CJ is different. Dude has this Natural Ability that Just Ooozes special man. Like he is the full package. Wether other QBs emerge there is NOBODY who will challenge him for #1 overall next year. Multiple teams are hoping to suck because of him. I would not be surprised to see "Tank" for CJ as a theme for multiple teams. QBs have always been hot, but they never been hotter after these playoffs. Come on... CINCY is in the SUPERBOWL! :o

Agreed but before that championship game Bryce Young was right in the convo with CJ on a lot of mocks...that game really bounced him down a peg or too. If CJ is the guy then you should expect a trade down this year with one of the picks to start accumulating picks for next so you have the ammo to go get him.

Sorry, not doing to be bad. This team lost mainly due to coaching , both lines, and playing to strengths. Daboll already said he asked DJ what he liked at Duke etc and looking to play to players strengths. Unlike Joe Judge who went away from strengths like Thibs.

there going to have to cut a ton of players from last year just to manage the cap.

They most likely are going to be really young too. I don't see them winning anymore than 4-5 games next year....maybe 6 at most.

You will have a brand new offensive line most likely. I assume you will have big name cuts or trades like Bradberry/Martinez/Shepard

maybe even someone like Barkley for cap reasons.

They will be the least talented team in the NFC east for sure next year. But its a necessary evil.

lol no it's not, dabol and graham know each other.

graham's defense was never the issue, they always got tired because the offense barely stayed on the field.

for a team with no pass rush, graham had good defense.

Bryce is nice for sure , but I just can't see teams wanting a QB that small over CJ all things considered. I mean thats the reason I dont even like him much. The majority of the top QBs next year are smallish. Which is why its CJ or Bust for me personally. Yeah the smaller guys can ball in the NFL, but I would always go for the taller talented QB when his talent is equal to, or even better than the small QB like Young who is only 6'0.

cj stroud is most likely hype than actually good ... ohio state never produces qb's.
