Raw, athletic (48” vert) some defensive potential.

Weak handles, weak playmaker, terrible shooter.

Not just that.

HE IS ANOTHER 6'4 SG.

This trade isnt just bad, its 'I wont watch another Blazer game in 2022' bad. Its not win now, its not retool, its not rebuild. Hell, its barely even save money.

Its **** insanity.

Most season ticket holders (including myself) will now stay home for they have thrown in the towel for the
2021-22 season. Makes you wonder how many will renew their season tickets

I'll still go to the game tonight, but I don't want to! I'm seriously thinking about not renewing my tickets.

Interesting little factoid: The Knicks drafted KJ with the 21st pick, and the Clippers moved up from 25th to get this kid and gave the Knicks a future 2nd to do so. His draft bio also reeks of being a Chauncey guy. Possible 6th man of the future with Simons?

Cronin leading things off and going HUGE out the gate... wasn't expecting that. Didn't think he had the stones, or the green light from the Vulcans to do such a thing. Treadmill over?

So your pretty standard late 1st round picks teams usually roll the dice on. Unpolished but super athletic. Simons was once that guy, so it’s why I don’t write them off out of hand just cause they had a mediocre rookie year, but yeah… total crapshoot.

I asked about him on the LAC forum and that was the consensus along with a video of a pretty wicked dunk.

Wow that trade is horrendous. Basically trading gold assets for cap space.

I had ZERO faith in him, as my previous posts show. Just surprised is all. He completed half of what I really hope he does for this Blazer team, which has always been night and day compared to what 90% of what others post on here. So it's "Props when props are due" for me. He led off the F/A early and went fairly big... And hopefully we aren't done. If this is all he (not me) accomplishes when the deadline actually ends... then I'll go back to dogging him, but until then...........................

I was fine with the GTJ trade after time because I really enjoy Norm. but to trade Norm (and Roco!!) for this collection of players is just..

blood pressure. High. HIGH.

Johnson is nearly 6'5", but with only 8'1" standing reach - which is comparable to a 6'1" player.
So basically, he's a short guy with a really long neck.

Every time a bad trade happens, there’s ALWAYS a handful of fans like yourself says “this is just part one!!!… there’s gotta be a follow up trade”. Over the almost 20 (depressing) years I’ve posted on this forum, it’s never failed and I have yet to see it every actually come true. Maybe 2022 will be the year that streak breaks but I won’t be holding my breath.

But also I don't mind Keon Johnson. I'm always willing to take a flyer on young guards with athleticism and physicality who have potential defensive-minded play to them. We need defense. But..

A flyer. one of several assets. Not.. the only asset.

The single worst trade since the projected Gasol for Gasol trade (i.e. before people realised Marc was actually any good).

Oh wow he does have a long neck. I saw his wingspan is 6'7 and a half which isn't ideal either. It's not t-rex arms, but I would've felt more comfortable if he had a wingspan of like 6'9.

I was never a Keon fan during draft season. Bouncy and a good motor on defense, cant shoot a lick or really do anything on offense outside dunk, pure SG due to height and frame w/o the wingspan to accommodate minutes at SF.

What is this roster now? In terms of guys not heading into FA:

PG - Damian Lillard / Eric Bledsoe
SG - CJ McCollum / Keon Johnson
SF - Nassir Little
PF - Larry Nance JR / Justice Winslow / Greg Brown
C -

The above roster currently cost 117.36M. And absolutely sucks.

Assuming we made this move to ensure we can pay Simons and Nurkic, lets say 20M and 15M respectively, we are left with:

PG - Damian Lillard / Eric Bledsoe
SG - CJ McCollum / Anfernee Simons / Keon Johnson
SF - Nassir Little
PF - Larry Nance JR / Justice Winslow / Greg Brown
C - Jusuf Nurkic

That roster with the estimates for FA will cost 152.36M. And still is really crappy.

I dont think there really is a way out of this, and I think maybe that has been the case since before this horrid trade. Maybe the face full of vomit that this move felt like was needed to smear off the rose coloring from my glasses.

This is the first time in Blazer history I’ve felt like not wanting to bother with the Blazers. There is noooo way you can tell me you could not have got a first round pick out of these assets. The only move now that could make sense is getting rid of literally the whole roster outside of Ant and Nas.

Two more thoughts.

1. The only logical explanation I can come to is that this was the Allen family doing an old friend (Ballmer) a solid. The only connection between the two teams is Microsoft.

2. Cronin plays a lot of NBA2K22 MyTeam. Last "season" saw a release of "maxed out" cards and Keon had a very nice card released into the game. He shoots lights out
About a week or so ago they dropped a nice Bledsoe card that maximizes his widely known strengths as a defender.

Finally, I'm sorry Dame. I know dude has been injured this year but his faith was misplaced and he should have sought a trade when his value was at its peak.

Return to Portland Trail Blazers
