This is going to be a bigger hole than the Nash/Howard fiasco.... The best thing we could do is trade Davis for some youth and picks but in LA that's not doable as the Buss family has to put a product on the floor that at least has to somehow match expectations with their pricing structure.
I think this 'hole' may cause a selling of the team. At the very least we need a completely new front office with a group that is centered on the Lakers and not on LeBron.
I disagree.
This offseason and next season, the Lakers will have a $47m expiring contract and 2 FRPs.. They will be in good position to make an upgrade I think.
I think this season is done though.
The team will still depend on an aging LeBron who dominates the ball and dictates that we use an isolation offense in critical situations. Add to that Davis who may never play more than 55 games in a season again. You can put a few good guys around them but the core is the problem.
Keep in mind, my evaluation is in terms of a true championship contender not a playoff team. I know fully well we will do anything possible to keep it going as long as he's here. The franchise really has no other short term solution.
Nothing against anyone here.... just my view of this. I just don't see a path to a balanced team that can overcome Bron's age and Davis' penchant for getting injured.
