Yeah but it's a good salary dump. Noel + Burks gone off our books and Dragic is expiring as well.

I would do this deal in a heart beat.

Yeah I feel some folks are missing that aspect of the proposed deal for us. Shedding the salaries of Burks and Noel with the only real asset being used to do so being Cam would be amazing honestly. The Knicks need to scrap the work they did in the off season in the worst way. I’d be more upset about it if Cam was actually being used and looked good here but that’s not the case. So might as well

You’re missing the point.

The Knicks keep doing the same thing over and over - signing marginal players to garbage contracts and then trading assets to get rid of them. It’s not smart at all. It’s actually the worst and most pathetic way to do business as an NBA team. That trade would be awful for that reason.

And we don’t need to ‘dump salary’ for Noel and Burks. They’re going to be expiring contracts next year. It’s stupid and unnecessary. Only guys who need to be dumped are Randle and Fournier.

I honestly don't care if they trade Cam, so long as they're not taking an L on the net of both trades.

And if there is a loss in the ledger, it better be slight and explainable (he was acting crazy behind the scenes or something).

Six hours to go...

Not sure if salaries match up, but I believe there was a way to get this done without adding RJ.

I see. Would you have done it?

I know where you stand on this, and you know where I stand on this since we already discussed it, but do you think RJ and Randle (and maybe say IQ) would have been enough simply in terms of realistically getting a deal done?

If we were offering RJ than Halliburton would be getting ready to play tonight in Golden State.

Personally I wouldn’t have included RJ in a trade package for Tyrese. But I would have highly considered the package I presented. I wouldn’t feel great about it, because it’s as STEEP a price as you’ll pay for a 2nd year player. But I could sell myself on the idea that Cam could step into Grimes role and McBride could step into IQs role. The 2 unprotected 1sts are killer but what can do you.

Halliburton-RJ-Reddish-Obi-Mitch

I wouldn’t miss a minute of any game.

Yea, i would have done what i could to pair RJ and Hali. Maybe it wouldn't have been possible, but not too confident the Knicks tried hard enough. Don't think the Knicks were willing to give up Randle + enough assets so the talks died and Kings moved on. Kings were the team we needed to make a deal with.

traded a 1st round pick to get Cam who is not being used, then use him in a salary dump a month later. Wow, our front office really seems like they know what they are doing...

if they get a 1st back of equal value they used to get cam, the cam trade is fine. he must really look like sh*t to them for them to give up hope on him already. the problem with that report tho is he has to be traded alone.

I also assume you're getting the Lakers unprotected 1st here. Which is better than the 1st you gave up for Reddish in the 1st place. I like Cam I'd rather they keep him but this trade allows them to push their asset base further down the line and clear cap for Brunson this summer who they clearly want.

Don't see why there is an uproar about dealing Cam if we can get rid of two of the horrible contracts we passed out as candy last summer, especially if we get draft capital back in return.

yeah I don't think the Knicks proposed deal is awful.

It does admit the FO are idiots and are not aligned selling off moves in less then a year for zero value.

But I think people are overrating Cam Reddish value around the league. We got him for a heavily protected 1st and Kevin Knox...If we can bring back a similar protected 1st back in this trade. Its essentially Burks/Noel for expiring and a 2nd round picks...I would sign up for that.

Also makes us a little more tanky and open up minutes for Grimes even when Rose comes back.

It’s weird to see people complain about the front office try and make moves clean up their mistakes from this summer ,when most of this board was on board with this summer once the Kemba deal was final. Hell most of this board was singing their praises to start the year. Them pivoting rather just sitting on those mistakes is a good thing, if anything does get done today of the sort to try clean up those long term deals , that would be great.

You can easily turn that deal into 2 separate deals. I don't think that would be an issue.

But yeah assuming the draft compensation is that Lakers 2027 1st I would understand why they would give up Cam for that. There would have to be another move made after this one though I imagine. Will be an interesting day for sure.

It's not how you build a winning team.

With all the money they had, maybe it would have been better to sign two or MAYBE three younger, better players and fill out the roster with drafted players and G-league garbage.

At least then, when it was time to deal, the "Assets" would be Randle, RJ, Obi, IQ, Grimes, McBride, Player X, Player Y, Player Z. with players 10-17 various G-League fodder.

I think resigning Rose was a smart move considering that he led the team to the playoffs last year. I don't blame the FO for keeping their best player (although they probably saw Randle as their best player) on a reasonable contract. But I think his contract could've been structured in a way that is both more team-friendly and player-friendly.

Otherwise, I agree with you.

All the other signings were unnecessary in my opinion.

And as I said at the time, the Knicks should have traded Randle on draft night, since they were lucky enough to have him under contract for one more season. That was an incredibly rare window of opportunity that the Knicks didn't take advantage of. I don't think he even counts as an asset anymore, as of today.

Trading Randle would've opened up the possibility of signing a younger player like Gary Trent to a 3-year contract that expires in 2024, which is the Booker-KAT free agency (which is undoubtedly on Leon's radar). Now, Randle's contract and RJ's likely ill-advised extension will probably derail those plans or at least require additional moves to make them happen. Which they won't, obviously, because they're the Knicks.

But I guess we'll see. Hopefully the front office plays their cards right.

I mean they kinda know though. There were rumors Harden wouldn't resign a month ago or something like that. The only thing that changed I guess is Harden wants out right now and doesn't want to wait.

Nets would be stupid to let him leave for nothing (unless they feel) they can do a S&T in the offseason to recoup some assets.
