Re: What Emotion Summarizes Your Response to the Deadline?
Disappointed and a little frustrated.
All of the talking points floating around here are bunk to me. You don't hold onto Beasley or Prince because they had a week or two of hot shooting. You don't disregard the obvious, glaring issues to preserve "chemistry". I mean, how are we STILL the smallest and/or thinnest team in the league? I get not making a deal to make a deal, or worse making a bad deal, but even something around the margins would have been something.
The worst part is teams below us got better without anyone above us getting worse (I'm bullish on the Porzingis trade, but maybe Dallas drops. Maybe.) This team, as constructed, is not guaranteed a playoff spot. We're not even guaranteed to win the play-ins if we're the 7th seed. We needed to do something because if we do miss the playoffs I think Towns starts looking for a way out.

Livid.
Instead of bolstering our roster in anyway we chose to do nothing.
It didn't have to be a major trade but we could have gotten one big

I felt the same way too but I honestly think he might have been told to do nothing. Unless the diapers.com guy is not a micromanger which I doubt based on the interviews I've heard him do (I. E. Guy Raz)

I'm ok with what happened. I'm not in agreement of trading just for the sake of trading. Maybe the deals they wanted were not there or the trades being offered by other teams are ugly. But as long as I know that they did their due diligence in testing the market, then I'm all good.
P.s. it won't matter anyways, after we celebrate the championship in June

Kidding ourselves …
1. This squad cannot beat a full starting roster. All year long we beat teams with missing players - a couple rare exceptions.
2. “iF” we make the playoffs, we have virtually guaranteed a one and done.
3. Still did not address any help whatsoever with the PF situation …
4. I like we didn’t it give up picks, but it shows you that if we don’t, our players don’t generate a lot of value alone.

I am very good with doing nothing. We are not winning a championship this year regardless of what we could have done. Let the team develop an identity all season, make the playoffs, and figure out what types of players we really need to take the next developmental step.

Re: What Emotion Summarizes Your Response to the Deadline?
Meh. We’re not good enough to get out of the first round of the playoffs. But sounds like a difference making combo (Barnes, Grant, etc) would have been too expensive. And any bench big we could have gotten probably isn’t going to be much better than someone we can sign in the buyout market.
I do wonder if by doing nothing, Gupta has essentially sealed his fate.

I'm content, and hoping we can find a third string center in the buy out pile without going over the tax. I think any deal would have required an overpayment, and as I've stated before, let's do our deals when we have more information about this team (are Dlo and Kat plus a developing Ant enough to get us to top 6?), our pick's location in the draft, and who's in the draft - i.e. after the season

I was just hoping they would move Okogie for a backup Big...atleast slightly relieved that they didn't make any bad trade

We didn't overpay in a trade. We didn't sacrifice future FRP's. We didn't take on any bad salaries. As others have stated, "content" seems like a good description for me personally.

You can't force a trade if it's not there, which makes it difficult to evaluate non-trades. We don't really know what was available.

That is true, but a move like Layman and a 2nd to the Kings should be available all day. They have a trade exemption and can waive him immediately. The pick is worth the cost to them and if not we could send out a mil in cash to make them do it. Now we can sign 2 buyout players or one and convert a 2 way. If nothing else you get fresh legs on a very banged up team.

"Should be available all day" just isn't reality. There's really no incentive for Sacramento to do it. A late 2nd? Why? That'dbe thevery definition of Sacramento making a move just to make a move. They get nothing out of it.

I don’t follow. The Wolves are 29-26 meaning they have played 55 games. Layman’s salary divided by 27 = 1.284
Million (rough numbers,) The kings could accept and waive him and the wolves mid to late second is the incentive. If the money is too high the wolves can kick in somewhere between 3 and 5 hundred K as well as the second. Why wouldn’t they do it? If not the kings plenty of other teams had trade exceptions that could absorb the remainder of Layman’s salary. Unless you are saying a 2nd is worth less than a million and that is a different conversation.

Re: What Emotion Summarizes Your Response to the Deadline?
Someone wrote about it weeks back. The franchise's response to rebounding issues in starting lineup earlier in season was to get smaller and rely more on quickness over brute strength. I'd imagine if you broke down the numbers, many of the issues come on long rebounds, where the big guys tend to be not involved. Thus, you guys are trying to solve a problem, but with the wrong tools.
While they're not in the regular rotation, I could still see guys like Okogie and Layman play an important role somewhere down the down the stretch.

I think there's still a decent gap between where we value pieces as fans and where opposing front offices value these pieces. I bet if the offers made to Gupta were made public, people would be more understanding about why he stood pat.

Re: What Emotion Summarizes Your Response to the Deadline?
The team was 21-20 at the trade deadline. Young with potential, but had holes. Instead of upgrading, they did nothing. Yeah they made the playoffs, but barely and it went nowhere. Followed it up with by all measures a pretty horrible offseason. Talk about taking your potential and throwing it down the drain!
Who am I referring to? Oh, just the 2020-21 Memphis Grizzlies. Sometimes internal development is the better way to go rather than selling off for marginal upgrades.
