Re: 2022 G League Ignite guys
Is Scoot hurt? he hasn't played in the last couple games of Ignite these few days.
General trend of the other guys
Hardy: horrific outing today, going 0 for 11 (!!!) scoring 6 points off free throws. It's getting to his head at this point it seems. the previous game he scored 29 on 24 shots, but somehow managed to be -23.
Daniels: had 13 on 11 shots and 9 board / 5 ast / 2 blocks this game, previous game 9 pts on 9 shots and 4 board 5 ast, he's certainly helpful on defense, but the offense and be rather erratic and his inability to consistently initiate in the half court is a real issue.
Foster: double double in both games, in one of them he even had 5 assist, I tend to think he's the more underrated of these bunch so far, i.e the team that swing for him late first / early 2nd has a good chance of looking good. he's pretty darn consistent at least.
Beauchamp : also double double both games, he's not quite as consistent as Foster, but generally he's done about as well as you could ask playing the game that's in front of him.
Zeng: perking up some, finally playing more consistent minutes and doing a little more, in one of the games he had 10 points on 8 shots while going +16 (they lost the game by 10 ) the other one he scored 6 with 6 board. the sample's been small so far, but he's basically the only guy on this team among the kids that can actually hit a 3. it would be nice if they could actually get the ball to him on more open looks and see what that looks like.
Their continued general inability to generate consistent half court offense is infuriating.

I feel like they've just adopted the general aptitude on offense as their coach had, lol, until Jeff Green, Jason Hart was the worst player I had seen play for the Jazz (well...there was also Ben Handlogten, Curtis Borchardt, and Paul Grant).

Clearly playing very well, for his age, at this level of competition.
Guy looks like a surefire top 3 pick in the 2023 draft.
depends on how he develops next year. 14, 5 and 4 on those shooting splits in the g-league sucks. but of course he's only 17 (18?). the point being, since those numbers do suck, but probably fine for somebody as young as him, everything rides on him being able to take a leap (especially with his long range shooting) next year and get to more respectable numbers as he matures and his game matures.
tl;dr - too early to say he's a top 3 pick in a strong 2023 draft.
Those numbers do not "suck" for a 17-year-old playing 24mpg against grown men on a team stacked with 3-5 future first round picks that are all older than him.
For example: Daishen Nix averaged 8.8ppg, 5.3rpg, 5.3apg on 38.4% shooting, 17.6% from 3 on 26.5mpg last year for the Ignite. This year he's averaging 30.0ppg, 7.3rpg, 6.7apg on 55.9% shooting, 50.0% from 3 for the Vipers because he's now the focal point of an offense on a team that's not nearly as stacked.
i didn't say they suck for a 17 year old. i said they suck, period. i said they are probably just fine for a 17 year old. bottom line, it's all about how he improves (like Nix has) - mostly his shooting - going forward.

They said on the broadcast that Scoot is in health and safety protocols..
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

so the question is, is this a good path for these kids? I feel like they're missing out on life experiences they'd get in college, better coaching, more visibility, etc. I'm just not sure it's worth it tbh. Obviously the talent level around them and that they're facing is far superior but I don't think it's helping their development more than missing out on those other things hurts it.

better coaching? not even close, and they are not missing out on much other than some sorority parties I guess. they'll get to go to plenty of parties when they're NBA players making millions im sure.

Its only been two years and there have been two HC’s but I guess I’ll try to answer this. Last year had more of a AAU feel to it that let guys like Jalen Green thrive but I don’t think he or Kuminga who came in as a raw prospect learned anything about playing in a structured NBA team system. They got to display their talent and now they have to learn to play in the NBA.
This year I don’t think the group outside of Scoot is nearly as talented as lasts year’s group, but the way they play they all look like they have high floors because the team is structured better. Especially because their playing G-League games where the opposing team is playing against them hard because they know scouts are watching. I don’t think any of these guys besides Hardy would go nearly as high as they are being mocked now if scouts didn’t see them go against the level of competition they have and they looked either competent or good. I can’t imagine any of them dominating in college enough to get the attention being on the ignite team has got them either. I actually think because of their time in the ignite most of them (Foster, Daniels, Hardy, and Beauchamp) will be able to go to teams and contribute quicker than rawer prospects coming from the NCAA and that adds value to them as well.
Which is interesting. Its still early in the program but I think the ignite team might end up favoring skilled prospects who want to go a team structured like a NBA system, get paid, and compete against higher levels of competition. However, I don’t think it’s a good program for a raw prospect with high potential. A raw player will get exposed and taken advantage of just like they would in the NBA. It definitely could end up a pipeline for NBA roleplayers kind of like schools like Villanova. In the future high ceiling guys like Green, Scoot, and Kuminga might be better off playing for big schools and getting the advertising money attached to that as well as the development. Whereas the ignite can allow guys to play against players striving for minutes in the NBA. It’s a great way to show they will likely be able to earn minutes once drafted.

This sucks for Foster but Scoot in the All Star game. This might be really interesting. He could secure the #1 spot in 2023 by ballin out in this game alone.

Would there really be that many useful data points from exhibition games? I can't imagine the NBA guys playing too hard.

Looking at those teams if they do well in these games it will add some stock to their value. Of the four Marjon might see some time if they do decide to play defense.
The format is weird for these games too… speed of scoring is more important than overall scoring so in theory defense might get played. It’s going to be a weird series.

What about in comparison to playing in Australia?
Make money and play against men. And it's been successful for multiple guys in terms of draft stock now.
(Ball and Giddey obviously, but didn't seem to be too bad for draft position of Ferguson or Hampton)
My take, as a biased local, is that its a good route if you do some research on the team, coaching and role.
There is some risk of being buried on the bench otherwise.

To be fair the splits don't suck It's just the 5/23 three point shooting dragging it down. 78% is pretty good stacked up against certain ATGs in the NBA (Ignoring some others lol). Also if he were 7 or 8 from 23 he would look a lot better right? Over a 23 shot sample, 23 SHATS, one can shoot a significant % below ones "true" percentage.
Now it's quite possible he isn't a good three point shooters and that % is somewhat reflective of true ability.
His 2 pt% is good and his ft% is decent, ignoring the threes his TS would be solid I think. Didn't do any real math but guesstimating. Mostly guessing.

Dyson Daniels with 21 points, 18 rebounds and 8 assists against Stockton. I'm really intrigued by him (being Australian).

Re: 2022 G League Ignite guys
Daniels looks elite defensively and is a good secondary distributor. Jumper is rough, though. I've grown intolerant of wings that need to play in the dunker's spot in the halfcourt.
