Toronto SunTIPOFF: Atlanta Hawks at Toronto Raptors
SCOUTING REPORT: Trae Young, that ice-cold killer is playing at the top of his game and the Hawks are rolling with their lights-out scorer. The Hawks have won five in a row and 10 of their past 12 with Young, last week’s NBA player fo the week leading the way. Young averaged 30.3 points and 10.8 assists in four wins compiled by the Hawks last week.
MARQUEE MATCHUP: Trae Young vs. All the Raptors
Nick Nurse is not going to limit his options in the quest to slow down Young. Expect all his top defenders to get a crack at Young led by his own point guard Fred VanVleet.
DID YOU KNOW: Young enters Tuesday game ranked first in the NBA in tototal assists and second in total points. He’s the only player in franchise history to tally at least 2,000 points and 600 assists in a single season … Former Raptor Delon Wright is making quite a name for himself in the steals department as a member of the Hawks bench unit. Wright has had multiple steals in a team high 25 games this year.

Agreed.
It's unbelievable that we can have such a highly rated offense and still look so dysfunctional and inept for long stretches. Our scoring is very inconsistent and I do blame defensive minded coach Nate McMillan for that.

Toronto had 62 points in the paint to our 42 points.
I don't understand why we don't work the ball inside. It's frustrating and I'm fedup with it.

Right on cue, the offense gets bogged down in the 4Q of a tight, season affecting game.
Something to be wary of going into the play-in games.

20 OFFENSIVE REBOUNDS. Nate refuses to play big.

Nate was out coached.
Last season was a miracle and exciting but Nate has taken this team as far as he possibly can.

Re: Game Thread: Trae Young vs Canada
They are tired after coming from 92-102 to 103-102, certainly why Nate took two time-outs in a row, and not having at least Gallo, if not John, is certainly costing the game.
Now, that's right that it's incredible to have one of the most efficient offense in the league while there are still things to fix on it :
- play more with Capela, but not more alley-oops. But even on alley-oops, I think sometimes he should not search to put the ball in the basket directly, there was one he missed where he could just take the ball, jump and put it in the basket, nobody was able to help for TOR on this one.
- when talking about playing more inside, for me, it's not only playing more with Capela : once they took the lead at 103-102, they shot 3pts more than anything, and maybe including one before this lead, I've seen two times Bogi receiving the ball in the corner and shooting. On one action, it was very clear that he had better to fake it, let TOR defender fly, and go inside. Bogi has an easy 2pts, or if TOR get back on him, If Capela or Hunter are reading it, they just need to cut or being free.
The last 3pts of Bogi was good, on the inbound, because it was in rhythm, coming from a time-out, but in game, and in the last minutes of game, when they get tired, they have to make easier than what they did. And it's not the first time they lost a game because they choose the play that have the least chance to succeed.
Overall, our starters were a bit better than TOR ones, and it's our bench that got dominated, with the exception of Bogi as he plays more, so not so much impact with the other bench guys, and good with the starters. It really feels like Gallo was really needed. And in extension, if John comes back at one point, it may be even better to limit him in playing-time first and make him start on the bench
Frustrating L, maybe just Gallo added would have been enough, but when you see that CLE lost Vs ORL, it was a gift to tie them in the L column and keeping BKN one game behind

Maybe Travis can fire McMillan
Where the offseason has more buzz happens.

As much as I would love a shot at a top offensive minded coach (Kenny Atkinson, Mike D'Antonio), the front office firing a HC 2 years in a row would reflect really poorly on Travis.
And it would alienate a number of coaching candidates around the league. Three different head coaches in three straight seasons is Sacramento Kings level of dysfunction.
I imagine Hawks will allow Nate another season to right the ship before seriously considering a change.

Right, if they don't want to hurt their chance at any other good coach in the future, they have to stick with him the next season.
But if he gets a full healthy roster next season, and don't fix some of simple things that would have been enough to win at least 5 more games this season even with this injured/COVID roster, next season will be his last season here
