Re: Tatum VS Luka
The spin people are putting on is that Tatum can contribute more than just scoring. This is part of his evolution as a player...still capitalized on the attention he gets everytime he's in the paint to get open looks for other guys and defended well.
Don't be fooled into thinking the celtics don't need Tatum. He was putting up 27ppg efficiently and both Miami/Milwaukee took the celtics to 7. They definitely need his scoring, but the role players stepped up big tonight.
Do I think he's as good as Luka? Nah. Luka at his best is in just a hair below Giannis and Jokic. Nearly took a team of guys that would never crack an NBA rotation and earned a medal in the olympics. There's a clear gap in both raw and impact stats in these playoffs. Luka also doesn't have a 2nd best player on par with Brown who is a really damn good player in his own right, definitely a star.

Yeah, because his team didn t make the open threes he generated.
Doncic was the player that generated the most open threes for his team in the playoffs. Something of like 21+ open threes per game through the first three rounds of the playoffs.
Tatum made 13 Assists today and he is still trailing Doncic in Ast per game in these playoffs.
Per BBall-reference:
Tatum: 41.1 MPG/.445 FG%/eFG% .527/RPG 6.7/AST 5.9/STL 1.2/BLK 0.9/TOV 4.3/PTS 27.0
Doncic: 36.8 MPG/.455 FG%/eFG% .527/RPG 9.8/AST 6.4/STL 1.9/BLK 0.6/TOV 3.9/PTS 31.7
Doncic is doing more with less.

Luka had KP who made a single All Star game and it didn't work out with them. Tatum has Brown who made a single All Star game. It's easier for things to work out with Tatum and whoever he plays with.

Re: Tatum VS Luka
^KP played 43, 51, and 51 games the past 3 years. He can't stay healthy. Brown got snubbed this year for the all star team; he's the best player in this series after Steph/Tatum and easily a perennial all star level player.

Luka was 6-18 with 4 assists and a game low -30 against these exact Warriors in game 1 only a few weeks ago.
Don’t forget Lukas atrocious defense as well!
You compared luka to Melo and Tatum to lebron stop talking basketball

Tatum is more like Carmelo Anthony. Doncic is more like James.

Honestly the Melo comp isn't awful, they have similar skills. Tatum actually plays defense and isn't a black hole though. I like to think Tatum is what Melo would've become if was drafted by the pistons.

Re: Tatum VS Luka
Luka isn’t a horrible defender really. After games 1+2 criticism he played really solid D most of the series. He’s not Tatum level, but he’s not as much of a liability as people make him out to be.

Except Jayson is an all defense caliber wing while Luka is a bad defender and extremely exploitable too

He didn`t fall back. Tatum couldn`t hit anything and still continued shooting (17 FGA) with nearly the same volume as his playoff average (19.6 FGA). Of course 13 assists are a class-act BUT its kind of easy too when your teammates are hitting 56% of their threes and nearly 60% of their field goals. Don`t get me wrong - Tatum made plays. But to say that he "hold back" might not cut it.

If I understand right, Tatum was 3/17, Celtics won and it proves Tatum is better than Luka?
I guess Tatum dominated Steph too?
What about, Celtics having really good team? Smart, Horford, White playing fantastic game. 15/23 for 3.

17 FGA is nothing. A loser stops trying to score altogether. He didn't exceed his shot attempt average. He fell back on playmaking.

Re: Tatum VS Luka
Can we bring this debate at least a little nearer to reality.
Had Tatum good game? No. Is he worse player because of 1 bad game? No.
Celtics are good team, but today's shooting night outside Tatum and Brown was extraordinarily. 18/28, 65% for 3. And that's the reason they have won. In that incredible % you have most of Tatum's assists too. If Celtics role players continue to shoot over 60% for 3, this series is over. Unlikely to happen though.

Your post sounds very levelheaded too.
