Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
I actually do think he can become a 6th man for us. He shot 82% from FT on about 4 FTA per game in the first 12 games for the Blue Coats this year. I'm not sure what happened from there; perhaps he was adjusting his shot.
Either way, he has been a shot maker in his career and has hit on extremely good percentages. Perhaps I'm being optimistic, but it feels like he's destined to become an extremely reliable role player for us. I'm hoping this offseason he turns a corner as a C&S player.

I think he could be a Derrick White type of player for us. Gritty 6'4 defensively resistant guard that can initiate offense and get opportunistic buckets. He has a playoff skillset. Him, Reed and Bassey all have pathings to being 2 way impact players that can help us win in the Embiid era.

In hindsight, I wish we played him over Thybulle. At least he is a high effort player with a semi-reliable jump shot. Thybulle looked like trash out there.

I would love to see some summer images of him and Maxey and Joe all in the gym together. Those guys got to pick up on Maxi's work ethic and bounce

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
He doesnt fit our team.
The players on our team should be able to spot up or throw down lobs, he’s neither of that.
If you ask me, I’d trade him for Kamagate. A better and usable project in the future.

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
There’s a chance a team that loved him last year will trade a low 1st or high 2nd for him.
If he stays then the #1 priority is learn to catch and shoot. That’s his ticket to playing time. He and Reed need to work on that nonstop this summer. Harden too lol.

He's too diverse a prospect to let something like 3 point attempt rate hold him back at the next level, and I think that's something he can easily adapt to when it comes to playing alongside better players at the NBA level.
Grant Williams for example went from an 11% 3PAr at Tennessee to ~40% as an NBA rookie, and 60% this season. His role will be similarly simplified on the 76ers playing alongside Harden, Embiid and Maxey.

Statistically speaking this is a beastly prospect profile (even ignoring the 3 point percentage due to low volume).
Excellent free throw rate, excellent free throw percentage, +2% steal and block, +20% assist percentage as an 18 year old 5 star freshman recruit. Coupled with being 6'4 with a high vertical and good physical measurables.
Just needs to be thrown in the fire now and given consistent minutes to unearth a playoff contributing gem.

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
I’m having a complete about face on Jaden Springer. I think there is star potential. I’m hoping for a Maxey level surge this summer league now that he is comfortable in the NBA setting (as a 19 year old) and can run the show. He blew up in the final 11 games at Tennessee, becoming a 16 ppg scorer. His strength as a guard is very impressive.

I came around on Maxey and Negro and Stormi came around on Springer. Now we're all collectively high on our future. Feels good, man.

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
I do think it’s underplayed just how young he was coming out. He doesn’t turn 20 until late September 2022. He’s going to basically be the same age in his second year that Maxey was as a rookie.
Nothing is guaranteed but he can still add a lot to his game. His already pretty sturdy body-wise and he should only get stronger.

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
I am encouraged that Springer seems to have really good touch. A lot of swishes and soft bounces on the rim. I’m too scarred to pin my hopes on someone figuring out their jumper but now that Maxey has done it I’m willing to have a little hope.

(also mentions how Morey, Brand and Rozman have been active travelling around for workouts and taking part in the pre-draft process)

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
I like how folks latch onto the adjective “sturdy” with Springer. Looked to me like he was pretty tough, especially when he got bounced around while driving to the rim and still delivered. Embiid is begging for some toughness out on the floor with him.

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
Can someone give me the "star" thesis for Springer offensively? He is strong as hell, has good body control and his percentages are solid. However, everything he does is so rudimentary that I feel myself constantly saying that "there is no way that works at the next level." I'm here for our future backcourt of short kings but I need a little help to see him as a solid offensive contributor/plus defender moving forward.

In terms of his three point shooting, he has a ways to go since we last saw him. Not sure if he's a fast learner and can fix the speed of his shot/increase consistency from NBA range, but he's not there yet. Otherwise, inside the arc he's somewhat advanced. He could definitely expand his ball handling repertoire. The use of his strength to get off clean midrange looks is similar to Jimmy Butler. Definitely capable of finishing through contact at a near Maxey level from what I've seen. Feel like he's also able to sell fouls better than Maxey. After being an 80+% FT shooter in HS and at UT, I feel like he's more in that area than what he showed in the G-League (65%). I'm guessing he needed time to adjust to this level of play and being an off ball guard to get comfortable. Next year we should see his game in a more adjusted circumstance. I'm hoping the Sixers ask him to be the star of the Summer League team and he puts up 20+ ppg.
There's a lot to be encouraged in his offensive game, but it certainly needs refining and advancing. Luckily he seems like a hard worker.

I guess personally I would define star caliber as hitting on a bunch of core elements of being a playoff contributor. To get drafted I value prospects to display elements of shooting/playmaking/shot creation/defending. The more boxes you check the brighter your potential star.
His free throw rate at nearly 45% is really strong. Means he has an ability to manipulate defenses and use his body/strength/tools to his advantage. Most all elite scorers go to the line en masse and usually roleplayers do not.
His free throw percentage being >80% was extremely promising as well. Promoted good fundamentals, with or without the 3 ball. Like Maxey in 2020 and Jaden Hardy this year who shot shaky from 3, but was a nearly 90% FT shooter in the G League.
He also had a +20% assist percentage which is really great. He makes plays for others.
Defensively he's strong and lengthy (for a guard) and took the ball away a lot and blocked a lot of shots.
And then of course him being a 5 star freshman recruit and the second youngest player in his class.
I think when you watch him play it's clunky and awkward sometimes -> and his draft + 1 season might not have been the linear leap we were all hoping for, but I think he really is a ball of clay that could molded into a serious winning player. He actually has all the tools.

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
Thanks guys. Very helpful. The concept of guard Jimmy clicked a little bit in my head when watching him play. Summer league will be very interesting.

Re: Welcome Jaden Springer
His analytic profile was always favorable but I thought he wasn't explosive or athletic enough to play his way in the NBA. I think I was wrong in that he's shown he can play his way without being an A athlete. Now needs to turn flashes into dominance in the G-league.
I think if he dominates it'll translate, unlike Reed's dominance which is due to an outsized role he can never replicate on the Sixers.
