Unlike Jordan I have hope that Tepper will learn to just hire the best people and step back. I don't have that hope for MJ. The Hornets won't ever achieve consistent success with Jordan as the owner. It's not a coincidence that the Warriors started winning after getting new ownership. They were previously a garbage organization just like the Hornets.

MJ as an owner never had a player the caliber of Curry. Where would the Warriors be without a generational player?

All the team has to do is play Clifford defense and the team wins 50+ games.

They'd still be good. The Warriors were bad during the first part of Steph's career when his running mate was Monte Ellis. What really put GS over the top is when they drafted Draymond and Klay. And they've made good decisions almost every time since, like getting Wiggins and Iggy.

It's not like we haven't been in a position to get good, but we screw up the draft and miss on FA signings more often than not. And at least some of that is MJ meddling and hiring the wrong people.

This could work. Clifford’s weakness was offensive creativity, Melo can take care of that.

I’m disappointed as I wanted someone new, but I’m interested to see how it goes

Lacob bought the team the year after Curry was drafted. If only we could be so lucky.

So in 2 years time, will we fire him and replace him with Borrego?

David Tepper is complete garbage and to compare him to Jordan is astoundingly stupid. Ask Rock Hill about David Tepper.

My early verdict is the optics are worse than the fit.

That SOB. I will never watch a Hornets game as long as he is coach.

Couple random thoughts.

Bet Gordo ain't going anywhere. Cliff was the coach when he signed with us as a RFA with Utah. Some slight history there.

The "MJ's cheap" takes are apparently off, at least as relates to the hire. Woj reported he's getting $4M per year, which the internet says is twice what JB was pulling.

Conspiracy theory:

Mitch decided I want playoffs this year. Our offense is foolproof, we need defense and we'll be there. Cliff will get us where we need to go year 1.

If Cliff rubs Melo the wrong way after the second year, fire him and say Melo extend with us and we'll hire who you want. We'll be in the middle of the most success our franchise has ever had and will still have a relatively young team. Should be getting really high caliber coach interest.

Our franchise and fans completely overrate lamelo. Kid has a ton to prove and isn't even a legit all star yet unless you count an appearance where a player got injured. I'm a huge lamelo fan but if I see another post where he should have input in regards to a coach I'll hang myself with dental floss.

Worst possible choice. Treadmill coach who puts every team he leads 2-3 years away from needing to rebuild. Zero creativity on offense. Alfense was a plan from previous decades. His idea of good defense is just pack the paint. It works vs bad teams with young players who can’t shoot and that is about it.

Expect more bad personal decisions. Clifford will push for more vets on the roster. Remember when we traded a first for belinali

We have a possible generational player on our team right now if we get the right coach to develop him

The issues I have with this are many, but beyond anything else It's clear this decision was a panic move.

He wasn't interviewed as a candidate. If anyone said we'd rehire Clifford when we fired JB they'd be laughed out of existence. This is literally an Onion headline IRL.

So, why'd we panic and hire Clifford? We hired Clifford because MJ wanted him over MDA and Stotts. Or Vogel or Snyder. If Mitch viewed him as a candidate, he would've interviewed him along with all the others. But he didn't. Because Clifford, until a day or two ago, wasn't a candidate.

Is Cliffords defense and discipline, in theory, a good fit with this team? Yes. We all agree we need better defense and better discipline. In a vacuum, he is probably a better coach than JB too. But why Cliff.....? Why not interview Vogel? Why not give Sweeney a go? They're defensive coaches who are probably better than JB, one of them recently won a title. So why didn't we? Because MJ wants a coach and he wants one now. And we already know Clifford. This is a match made out of convenience. We need a coach. Clifford needs a job. Match made in Heaven.

Will we win 45-50 games next year? More than likely. We'll probably have a top 10 offense, due to the sheer amount of offensive talent, and Clifford will patchwork the defense so we'll be at least respectable. But it isn't worth it. Because it's embarrassing. This isn't a move for the future. This is a "win-now" move on a team full of expendable veterans that we can't expend because their contracts are bad or nobody wants them, a 20yr old star as our best player, a few developmental youth and Miles Bridges soon to be on a max contract. And when we win 45-50 games next year. It'll be because of those players, not Clifford. Assuming he actually plays them.

So, in addition to this being a panic move. It's also lazy, shortsighted and the optics are beyond embarrassing. They gave 0 thought to the fan reaction to this. This is a kick right in the balls. The management of this team embarrassed us all today, regardless of whether or not you think Clifford Pt.2 will work or not. Odds are, we'll fire him again in a couple years. Maybe we'll rehire Borrego next time for the rebuild. He developed some good talent the first time around after all.
