He was saying that the Dream is tutoring D Howard and AR was tutored by Russell Turner....Sometimes I wonder about you.

And there it is.
He did show some inconsistent signs of getting it right before he went down w/an injury though, so there is a learning curve, not a flatline. The question is, with what will likely be a lot longer leash initially, will AR motivate himself to be an actually good basketball player? Does he even know what one is?
In the best interest of AR, have to hope D'Antoni makes him earn every second on-court. Because if he does wind up getting it, he'll be a great player.

Some people just see a name they recognize and instantaneously give it credit... if that were the case, Mullin, Isiah, and Bird would have been excellent GMs..

SO true.....not.
AR's best game against the Knicks: 12/7/0, 2 blocked shots, 2 TOs
David Lee in that same game: 27/11/4, 1 steal, 2 TOs
Hit me up when you all crash back down to earth...

Do me a favor and leave me out of your posts....I was only commenting on Twinkees non read and statement. It's my only post in this thread. I've said nothing about Randolph at all in this or any other recent thread.
But it's true that the only mentor provided by the Warriors for all of our big men has been Russell Turner. It's the truth. No need to go whacko. While other teams find accomplished big men to mentor the extremely young talented big men around the league, we shuffle out Russ Turner. It says alot.
Now go beat your wife.

I was actually responding to the idea that it matters who's coaching who.... and the principle you posted in response is still wrong. You still fall right into the starstruck group that just wants a big name there because apparently, all big names = good coaches.
Russ Turner 'taught' Tim Duncan. But thats not big enough? Just more and more excuses for everyone's favorites..

I think Turner most likely fed Duncan the ball in practice. Duncan isn't great because of anything Turner taught him...Fail
Starstruck group? I'm talking about the Warriors lack of looking to known guys to help their talent. In his short time here it appeared that Moncrief made a difference. I really can't point to any big men on the Warriors who truly made a big jump because of Russ Turners tutelage. Clifford Ray isn't a huge name, but he's a former Warrior who might have been very helpful to our kids.
I'd like Nate Thurmond to be asked to help. I've been pointing at the poor performance from our previous management, and at just about every turn there you are defending them.
I used to like you, now you're just a bitter pill.
It's useless talking to you so leave me out of your posts.

Re: Keeping an eye on AR
Lol because i made valid points about a take that makes no sense? While you talk about my family? Stay classy...
Also, do you know if Turners a bad coach? That Ray or Thurmond is a good one? If they are available?
Nope. Pure speculation based on their playing careers, which is irrelevant to coaching. Marginal players have bcome great coaches, and great players have become terrible coaches. All bitching about coaches usually stems from not wanting to hold the player, the most important person in the equation, accountable.

Re: Keeping an eye on AR
FNQ is right that being a player has nothing to do with being a good coach.
OTOH, if a coach's team is bad for years on end he usually gets fired. Our "bigs" have been bad for years on end, in spite of us drafting a lot of them. It might simply be time to let Turner go and give someone else a shot, even if we did draft a lot of lemons.

Re: Keeping an eye on AR
Absolutely, but as you mentioned, it could be because we drafted a lot of guys who either werent that talented, motivated, or a combo of both. Ultimately Turner had to go because of his lack of results, but does it mean hes a bad coach or that anyone could do better?
Same w head coaches. Adelman wasnt that great here, but did very well in Sac and Hou, where hes considered a good coach.
The whole ex-star coaching a youngin w potential is a nice puff PR piece but likely irrelevant to the kid's growth

Re: Keeping an eye on AR
True, it is sometimes unfortunate for a head coach to be fired because he might have not had much to work with, and some coaches aren't that good but they're given great players. It's a problem, though, because if you continue to fail, when are you ever given clarity that it's the coach or the players?

Maggette comparisons belong nowhere in a discussion about real NBA players. Maggette murdered every team in the league...statistically. Let's just take that comparison out of here for logic's sake.

Re: Keeping an eye on AR
You're comparing the main offensive player on his team to a player who hasn't even played 1 40plus min game for the Dubs...
Make the comparsion after AR plays a full season under his belt under D'Antoni....Give AR 2 more years and he'll be the better player

Re: Keeping an eye on AR
Clifford Ray has proven to be a good coach by many who have sang his praises. He has been available prior to the Celtics gig. Not sating he is now.
I would think Nate Thurmond would be available, but don't know for sure. Not sure how he would be as a coach, but based on his playing career and the things I've heard him say in regards to the Warrior players, he might be a guy to listen to.
Jabbar isn't a well liked guy but the lakers thought enough of him to at least try and help Bynum.
Hakeem might not be a good coach, but one would think it's a good idea to try and have your young players learn a thing or 2 from him if possible.
I never said we had to have a name coach, but we've seen nothing from Turner for years. You can't just blame it all on the players. Of course players have to take blame or praise for their own careers, but the word gets out on coaches if they have it or they don't.
And Turner hasn't been let go....he was allowed to take another job in college.
My biggest frustration has been the overall front office decision making for years now. Turner was part of the problem...You can't point to anything he's done on the Warriors as being solid.

As a close family friend of Clifford's I can tell you that he is looking to leave the Celtics if they don't raise his meager salary. His contract with them just expired this offseason and he has expressed interest in returning to the Warriors. He's not in great health though unfortunately so I'm not sure how many years he can keep doing this.
