That logic doesn't really work.

For example, let's say it's true that "All short people won't be successful in basketball." The opposite of that is not "All tall people will be successful in basketball."

In other words, it could indeed be true that a requirement for being good in the NBA is having dominated in college. That is not the same thing as saying all players who dominated in college will be good in the NBA.

He's saying it's a necessary condition, but that doesn't mean it's sufficient.

i'm not sure what you're talking about.

college stats mean absolutely NOTHING in the nba.

perry jones put up 13.5 ppg / 7.6 rpg / 1.3 apg / 50% fg% this year. unimpressive no? let's look at what others have put up...

vince carter-13 ppg / 4.5 rpg / 2.4 apg / 52% fg%

andre iguodala-12.9 ppg / 8.4 rpg / 4.9 apg / 45% fg%

none of these players dominated college basketball yet they turned out great in the nba. that's the point i'm trying to make. it doesn't matter if you dominate college ball or not, it doesn't mean a thing in the nba.

jason thompson put up 20.4 ppg / 12.1 rpg / 2.7 apg / 56% fg% in his last season in college, he's an utter scrub in the nba. exactly.

numbers don't mean a thing.

Make sure you bump them up together with your posts from last year where you vehemently argued for Perry Jones and Brandon Knight over Irving.

Also make sure that you bump up threads where you claim Cavs roster without Bron was better (in 2009 summer) than Bulls roster (pre-Boozer). That's right, Mo Williams, Hickson, Varejao and scrubs better than Rose, Deng, Noah etc. ....

We have a genius on board.

No dog in this race, but let's see where Knight and Irving are in 5 years...Irving was great, but Knight was impressive as well, and played in a horrible environment. He may end up being just as good...the benefit of predicting the success of 19-20 year olds is you have a large time frame in which to disappear when you are wrong...

BTW, I'm in the Jones camp...would love to see him in Philly...think he will flourish in the right environment/high character team, and the Sixers have that in place.

Philly has too many non-shooters so the spacing is very tight. Plus doesnt Jones duplicate somewhat what Thad Young brings?

I think the best team for Jones to go to is Celtics if they keep their core (especially KG-PP-Rondo) together. I cant think of a better situation for Jones to learn the ropes from KG and PP.

Different skill sets from what I see. Thad is an undersized PF, Jones is an oversized SF (if that makes any sense). I actually think Jones would help open the floor a bit if matched up correctly, but that is relying on his jumper...

Tim Thomas if he develops a jumper. Otherwise, massive bust.

I don't like him at all, but Tim Thomas, "if he develops a jumper"?

His athleticism is just out and out too good to make that comparison.

Uhmm, a young Tim Thomas was a terrific athlete.

young tim thomas was more skilled than pjIII as well. TT had legit SF skill, whereas PJIII and his backers just think he does.

btw, first time i ever heard LOTUG on a mix. dope.

Thad is a better 3 and 4 than PJ. PJ doesn't know how to play basketball and looks less motivated than Darius Miles on and off the court. He would be worth a lotto pick, but I don't think he is because he doesn't seem to care about basketball.

Thomas was at least a shot blocker and disruptor. I'm not really sure what Jones III does in the NBA outside of an occasional lob.

PJIII shouldn't be a lottery pick at all. Sucks at the game of basketball, is lazy, and doesn't really even like basketball. All he's doing now is using coached up talking points to try and get at least one huge payday in the NBA. The only reason I'd even consider him in the first is if I was a team like San Antonio who has a good coaching staff, no immediate need, and can afford to take a flyer on a player who will likely bust hard.

Perry Jones doesn't have the mentality to be a "star". A really really good player? yes but not a star

Well I'm in the Jones camp. If he played somewhere else besides Baylor, like Louisville or Illinois where he could play for a competent coach and still be the star of the team, then we probably would be arguing over whether or not he is the #1 pick or not.

Dude is legit. Baylor just hindered him.
