Re: GT #68: Wizards @ Lakers 10:30 PM CSN
I don't know if it's just Wall's jump shot that's making the difference. From what I've seen, Wall still has plenty of room to shoot, maybe not as big a space as before. It was downright disrespectful how much room they were giving him the majority of the season. But he still has room to pull up when he wants to. IMO his pace has just really improved. Just like he said in interviews, he's not just pushing the pace with his feet but with his decisions as well. Getting it up-court to Nene who established early position in the post. Or rifling a pass to the across court to Ariza or Webster on the wing for an open 3 after breaking down the D. Wall's decision making is just better.
It's a bit shocking to see this. It's like it just all clicked at once. Like CCJ said he went from average to great overnight. Well in all honestly, slightly below average to great.

I must say, it was the most satisfying road win of the season. Mainly because i was stuck listening to the Lakers broadcasters undermine the Wiz players every chance they got in the first half. Between the moronic play-by-play guy blowing his load after every Laker basket (Meeks for 3...YESSSSSSS!!!!!11) and Stu Lantz's (who i usually enjoy listening to) smug remarks in the first quarter, i was forced to mute it. The first couple times Temple got the ball and the play-by-play guy said his name - Lantz felt the need to repeatedly say, "who?!". Or another possession when Wall missed a jump shot and he starts snickering and rambling on about his broken jumper. Ugh
Oh well, Go WIZ

from Michael lee:
John Wall scored or assisted on 26 of #wizards 31 4thQ points in 103-101 victory over LAL.
Over all wall accounted for 63/103 points which is 61.2%.

yeah a healthy staring Wall and Beal next season may mess up the tank train for Wiggins/Parker. Good idea to bench them early next season.

Stu Lantz is cool IMO, but Bill MacDonald called the Wizards a bottom feeder team. He kept saying this team only had 6 road wins. James Worthy, in the post game said the loss was "disgusting". He called out the coaching. All their announcers and analyst never gave Washington credit for beating LA after being down 18 in the third.
The bottom line is John Wall was the best player on the court. Last night, Trevor Ariza was the second best. In the second half, Nene outplayed Dwight Howard. He scored on Howard in isolation a couple times late. Garrett Temple took advantage of Kobe not getting back on defense and Temple nailed some open shots. The Wizards were by far the more athletic team. Seraphin stuffed Jamison at the rim. Wall picked Howard for a dunk. Wall crossed Nash so bad that Steve Nash fell on his face.
The Lakers got beat. They tried HARD and got beat. Meeks hit threes. Jamison hit shots. But in the end Kobe thought he alone could beat the Wizards and they stopped going inside to Howard. Kobe missed free throws and was defended to the point he miss shots. The Wizards WON this game. The Lakers could not stop the Wizards from beating them, despite their best efforts.

Mea Culpa on Wall. I was one who thought he would never get it. I was wrong and he is well on his way to becoming a star player in the NBA.

They also beat the Bulls, Nets, and the Hawks once each.

I think the Wizards shooting coach deserves the max. Not only are Wall and Temple hitting 3s now but Ariza/Webster are having career years from 3 and obviously Beal had a stunning midseason turnaround.

Based off of the ESPN highlight package, you'd have thought the Lakers won by 20.

Got to give him props -- big time. Wall is playing outstanding basketball.
CCJ, maybe you have it right, and he's "figured it out."
Ariza took 15 shots and produced 25 points out of them. The rest of the team took 72 shots and produced 66 points out of them -- no way we win w/o his off the charts offensive performance.
All the same, last night the Lakers out-rebounded us, shot a higher % from the floor and on 3pointers. But, they turned it over and we didn't (only 1 TO from John Wall!), which gave us 6 more shots than them -- just enough for us to squeak out the win.
Temple had an outstanding game too. A nice win.

With Kobe playing distributor, they get a lot more highlight-worthy plays, and they play well - with everyone contributing. With Kobe playing hero-ball, they blow big leads. Considering D'Antoni's history with Nash, why does he let Kobe play hero ball and Nash fade into the woodwork. If you're not going to let Nash have the ball during crunch time, why use him at all - since he's a limited defensive player?

I think it's still too early to tell if he finally got "it". He could suddenly go from playing great to average like last season.

You might want to consider removing the Lakers and Knicks from your list of "elite" teams. Just sayin.

Really, Don't know about the Knicks (even though alot of their fanbase think they are) elite, but the Lakers could be 0-82 and be an elite team.
Good day after a GTown loss.

Just got done watching the game. Ruz is right about Kobe's hero ball contributing to their loss. They were up 3 with 2 minutes left and he went iso after iso.
Nice to see Wall ice the game with 4 straight foul shots at the end.
Ariza was on fire and you could see Wall was looking for him constantly. There was never a time where Ariza was open and Wall didn't get him the ball.

RealGM effect? <jk>
And also just when Wall went more explicitly public with saying he felt
he deserved a max contract (Grantland piece). At the time, coming off
a stretch of pretty mediocre play, it seemed unrealistic from an objective
viewpoint (not from John's POV though). So he goes out and immediately
starts proving it on the court with a PoW and then continued AllStar level
play.

Now I really want the Heat to win out until their visit to DC.
I think the 'zards would have as good a chance as any (except SAS)
to end the streak. We're decent-to-good defensively, have a
good balance inside-outside and young hungry players
dripping with motivation.
