not really against it. A player of the calibre Jefferson (borderline allstar) is the best thing we could possibliy get for money.

sure it sucks that we will ruin our chances for a top3 pick next year, but I have given up any hopes for that anyway

Hopefully he accepts. I still think our pick lands in top 10 regardless. Some of you have gotten way to use to losing.

The point is putting a piece in place to improve now rather than later. There's no guarantee the Bobcats will be able to get a player as good as Jefferson next offseason. Legitimate all-stars aren't exactly lining up to play in Charlotte.

Heck the Bobcats could easily max him out for 2 years and it would be fine. I would be OK with a 3/45 or a touch more. Once you hit 4 years it's a danger zone. That's when the Bobcats will have to start new deals on key guys like Kemba. At that point having too much committed to Al Jefferson would be a problem.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

cho also probably views jefferson as an asset. assuming we dont grossly overpay and jefferson is still productive, he should have decent trade value for a few years.

So checking in as a Hornets fan i'm guessing we're good for the FA period and resign Hendo and we're good for next season.

A big plus is Al Jefferson's presence in Charlotte will help the brand name of the Hornets and help recruit other free agents. Perhaps he won't be the last to even sign in his class...

4-year, 50M. 4th year unguaranteed, only triggers based on a certain amount of starts made during the first three years.

Jefferson's defense isn't nearly as bad as it was in Minnesota. This past year, he was remarkably average. He's changed a lot since his Twolf days.

Still don't necessarily want him though.

i think this is a big part of it, Cho wants to collect as many assets as possible and will try for a lot of the big names.

Didn't we offer Brook Lopez the max last year.

He still gave up more points than he produced. Going from horrible to below average, while commendable, is still bad. Man it would really suck to donate so much money to the mediocre fund

I wouldn't pay him more than 7m per honestly. I'd rather swing a trade for Robin Lopez than overpay this lousy defender.

You'd be surprised on how much this applies to the vast majority of the league.

Net +/- doesn't define much at all. Its hardly the measuring stick you're implying.

He's at least as good as Boozer or better on the defensive end. Which is right around "average".

I'm not even sure how people can say he's a bad defender anymore.

Lots of things on there imply, to me, that when he's in the game, his positional opponent scores more against him than he does against them.

It also tells me that when he's on the floor, the Jazz were -159 versus +152 when he was on the bench, which means they're A LOT better without him.

It also implies that he was by far the most detrimental player to the team (not counting some guy named Kevin Murphy, who only got 52 minutes all year).

To narrow the field to guys who played 25+ minutes:

Hayward: 5.3
Millsap: 0.5
Mo: -3.3
Foye: -3.9
Jefferson: -8.2

He's at least as good as Boozer or better on the defensive end. Which is right around "average".

Hardly a benchmark to be aiming for.

I'm not even sure how people can say he's a bad defender anymore.

By watching the games. #superfan

Clifford is suppose to have a great defensive mind, hopefully he can mask some of Jeffersons defensive problems.

I was on board with the signing but that stat is pretty telling.

And LP when you pay someone 10mil + you don't want to have to "mask" deficiencies

He's going to get quiet a bit more than 10 million. I'd bet on 12+
