trwi7 wrote:That biathlon is complete **** too. Cross country skiing is awful enough, now just randomly shoot a gun at a target while cross country skiing. No thanks.

It's not completely random. Many Olympic events are meant to highlight aspects of war and survival. Wrestling, archery, swimming, track, etc. If you were going to survive in the mountains hunting your own food, you had to know how to ski and shoot.

Fun Fact Edit: Biathlon was added because skiing and shooting were essential for military patrol.

US women's hockey team just scored 3 goals in 55 seconds against Switzerland after Switzerland started out decently.

So Twirly, tell us why the Madison-native Kessells went to Minny instead of Wisco.

Jed Madison WI

Was Wisconsin ever really a possible decision or was it always a distant 2nd to Minn? Was there any point where you thought "I am going to Wisconsin"

Phil Kessel
(3:43 PM)

Wisconsin was always a possibility. Madison is my hometown, UW is a great school and it's a great program. At some point, you always think you're going to play in the town you grew up, but in the end, Minnesota was the place for me.

Steven (Madison, WI)

How was of a factor were the coaches in your decision, was their one coach who you thought stood out compared to the others

Phil Kessel
(3:45 PM)

Both Coach Eaves and Coach Lucia are great at what they do. They play two different styles, and they're both doing well...and will continue to do well over the next couple years. I think Coach Lucia plays a more offensive style, and I think that style best fits me.

Plus I believe they went to high school at Shattuck St. Mary's in Minnesota. Phil for a little while before he went to the U.S. Development Team in Michigan. And he's right, Mike Eaves' offensive style is a horrible fit for a player like Kessel.

Yeah the right eye was fine until yesterday. Dumb a** probably put that water on his face despite the warnings.

I don't feel bad for him. After the hotel incident, dropping out of slopestyle last minute and costing someone a spot, and some other things I've heard which I won't get into, this is karma smacking him in the ass.

Not a big fan of jury sports, but this half-pipe stuff isn't half bad.

Spoiler:
Woot! USA leads Slovakia 1-0 on a beautiful drop pass by Kessel. John Carlson fires a slapper over Halak's blocker.

Spoiler:
USA gets screwed again by incompetent refs. An obvious offsides call is missed which leads to a Slovakia goal.

Americans, what's wrong with your speed skaters? Is it the suits?
