No shot? How so? And he's above average in terms of quickness for a 4.

Hes definitely not slow or plodding for a 4. I don't get this. You actually won't find a legit PF that's quicker than him. If you watch him you'd know he moves like a wing.

yea SVG needs to offer the max and see if orlando matches

Um, isn't there some issue about us tying up our cap space and missing out on more possible signings by making big offers to RFAs?

It's very unlikely that Orlando matches a max offer for Harris. That's the reports going around and I believe it.

I think people look at Harris how he is now and don't realize he's still just 22 years old and has improved every season. He's still far from a finished product.

Id take the chance on handing him a max contract. Next season it'll be basically a 10 million dollar contract.

Man..

If we could do this, and sign a 2/3 like Middleton or Da. Green

C: Dre, ???
PF: Tobias, E, Tolliver(?)
SF: Stanimal, KCP, Martin
SG: Middleton/Da. Green, Meeks
PG: Jackson, Jennings, Dinwiddie

That's a friggin team

^No money for that. We have 20M under the cap - Harris will cost 14M, leaving 6 for Joel Anthony and another center.

Harris did play PF alot during his first full season with the Magic, so who knows if he could be adequate next to Drummond as a stretch 4.

In this offense he can most certainly play both when we go 4-1. If we go after Harris and sign him I expect in a sign and trade giving up a future first and maybe Meeks. We need room to address the backup center position 6 mil I don't think is enough

I don't see it being an issue if the Pistons believe they can workout a sign and trade.

Not sure I'd like to see the Pistons throw the bank at Jackson if they sign Harris. If they're really not sold on Jackson just sign and trade him to the Knicks for Jerian Grant.

I wouldn't mind if we signed Harris and threw the rest of our cap space 6-7M at Brandon Wright

Think he would take a 3 year / 21M deal to back up Drummond without any pressure to produce as a role player but with the opportunity to cash in after 3 years (last year could be a player option)

Jackson / Jennings -- Dinwiddie
KCP / Meeks
Harris / Johnson
Ilyasova / Tolliver
Drummond / Wright

Miller -- Martin -- Hilluard are the maybes for the roster

I don't get the fascination with Harris. The guy isn't exactly a defensive stalwart and his scoring game is nice and all but he's nothing special, and certainly nowhere worth max money.

RPM doesn't speak well of him, 58th among SFs at -2.52 this year, for what it's worth.

He feels like an empty stats guy. Sure, he's showing up in the box score, but someone's going to score and rebound on a bad Magic team. The fact that they don't care to keep him shouldn't do anything to make you like him more either.

I'd rather throw some money Al-Farouq Aminu's way, that's a guy who can play defense. Pretty underrated player IMO.

People are interested in Harris because his efficiency has improved every year he's been in the league, and was up to a pretty reasonable clip as of last year.

His true shooting percentage was 55% last year, which isn't Jordan-esque efficiency, but is pretty darned good for a ranged player who doesn't have a whole lot of help or other players drawing the attention of the defense. He can also hit threes at a respectable clip and play both forward positions. He's not a great defender, but he can still complement a guy like Stanley Johnson, who is strong defensively but not polished offensively.

Aminu, on the other hand, is redundant. If we'd drafted Kaminsky I'd say give Aminu a shot. As it stands, we already have a defensive small forward with offensive question marks in development. No need to grab another one.

He's not worth max money, but I like the fit enough to be willing to stretch the worth a little bit, especially with the cap going up soon.

Gonna have to agree with hoophabit... the RFA option is not in Stan's cards right now... from the horses mouth.

The Magic balked at 10 million for Harris last year. This is a different situation than other RFAs. If he signs a max contract there is a distinguishable possibility they don't match. Its been known to happen, and this looks like it could be one of those times.

Deciding not to go after him and putting our eggs in the Carroll/Green basket isn't without its risks, either. In this case I believe the risk/reward may favor an attempt at the RFA this time.

Fair enough... just going from SVGs quote saying he will be spending his time going after UFAs vs RFAs because of the risk of tying up cap and losing any chance at bringing in new talent.

Gotta go all in on Harris IMO.

But I've said that before and got shouted down cause he's a RFA and the Magic are absolutely gonna match...

I think everyone's just trying to point out the plans to go after UFA first. If we sign one we can't sign the other unless it's a sign and trade. I hope that's not the case and we still need to address back up center.

We will strike out on Carroll and Green because they are interested in contending and competitive teams

By then one or two teams will already have offered Harris offer sheets to sign

We are then forced to sign someone like Wes Johnson or some 4th tier SF. We are improved but not by much. Miss the playoffs and end up with the 9th-10th pick for the 5th year in a row

Only way I could see Stan and Co looking at Harris is if his agent called up Detroit at 12:01 on Wednesday and said "Send me an offer sheet for 4 yrs and 56M and Tobias will sign it right now as he's in my office as we speak". That would lock us out of other offers for 48 hours, but Demarre Carrol and Danny Green probably won't sign right out of the gate with anybody either.

I think Stan knows who's willing to come here already even if you can't officially offer contracts or talk to other players. Players can talk to each other, agents can speak in legalese to get message across without saying anything official or against the CBA/rules.

One strike against Harris allowed to walk here unmatched is Stan was publicly critical of their FO when they fired Vaughn. He needs to self-censor on commenting on other teams now given he's Team President, de facto GM and has organizational power and isn't simply the coach.

^Well then, I can't disagree with Stan to get something done with Demarre or Danny if he can right out of the gate. Have to wait a week, and then Orlando would get 48 hours to match or not is too much time to wait.
