Re: Hornets set to name Mitch Kupchak GM AND President Of Basketball Operations - Woj

I've definitely been leaning towards the idea that Clifford will not be fired and given another shot with a slightly revamped roster next year. I think the only way I see Clifford getting fired is if the front office decides to trade Walker this summer and realizes that is the beginning of a complete rebuild, in which case I'm sure they know that Clifford is probably not the best coach for that task. I guess what I'm saying is, get your pitchforks ready, I think Clifford has one more year left in his Hornets career.

Not really an inspiring hire. Not sure why I keep getting my hopes up. Hopefully he at least makes us respectable.

Cliff is a hardheaded stuck in the mud. Tell me why retaining him helps anything? Another year of same old same ol just makes us a year of extended misery. If somehow they have a decent year they will be compelled to extend the goofus for more perpetual disaster.

Fire Cliff!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Maybe they'll announce it after the season ends and before the players have an exit interview.

Kupchak's reputation in LA was to take it slow and do everything completely by the book, even when it was to his detriment (such as not contacting agents about FA players during the tampering period). It wouldn't surprise me if there is some protocol reason why it's more proper to sign on the dotted line after the last regular season game has wrapped up.

Good. Teams can begin making moves as soon as their season ends. Not saying I'd expect anything this week, but better optics and whatnot.

I'm very skeptical of the situation, but I'll reserve my judgement until hes had a fair chance to prove me wrong. Firing Clifford asap would go a long way towards winning me over.

One more game, then get to work!

1. Fire Clifford
2. Contact Jay Wright, if he's not interested at all, contact Tony Bennet, if he's not interested, continue search
3. Start watching film and analyzing prospects for the upcoming draft.
4. Start shopping Dwight to gauge interest. If the perfect deal is there (hopefully a late first or future first, and no salary coming back)
5. If Dwight is dealt, go ahead and sign Kemba to an extension. If there is no deal, then we gotta try to unload Marvin or MKG to sign Kembas extension. Kemba at 12 million currently and Marvin at 13 gets us to 25 million, not far away.
6. If for some reason Kemba doesn't want to talk extension (I hope this doesn't happen), then you gotta start protecting the franchise by gauging deals for Kemba.
7. Continue gauging interest in everybody except for Monk, Lamb, Bacon, Willy, and Graham (Treveon is good depth to have at the end of the bench)

Fizdale is a good coach

I am pretty sure you can’t extend Kemba because the extension would have to be based off his current deal. That is what makes keeping him such a scary prospect because it means you either resign him or he can leave for nothing and you won’t know until it happens.

Yep and he's already said he's tired of not making the playoffs. Not sure what the early odds are but I don't think our expectations should be much better next year. If we wait until the trade deadline to make the trade, we'll miss out on a ton of value and look even worse when we trade Kemba after he makes the AS game. Think you have to make the trade before the draft.
