Months and no time depending on how you slice it. NE has long known I covet Nurkic but sent me a fair offer with like five minutes to go and I accepted.

I won a helluva ugly game 76-60. Only scored 4 pts in the 4th and still won. Led by as much as 44 pts.

To expand a bit - I looked at the trade the same way you did - a Sabonis for Nurkic swap two years down the line when Sabonis gets paid (with Gallo's cap space). Assuming they end up with similar salaries, I'd prefer Nurkic and it was an easy decision. I LOVE both players but at the end of the day Baby Sabas is a bit of a tweener (and has fallen off a bit lately) whereas Nurkic is bigger. A pure center and rim protector with similarly adept passing ability and range. That's not reflecting in the SIM right now but should after this year, where Nurkic has been a beast IRL. I've gotten the chance to watch him live a few times this year and he's just a PUNISHING player underneath.

New Era looks at it much differently. He gets a big upgrade immediately at SF and gets a player of similar caliber in Sabonis for center. Gallo is having a comeback year IRL and Sabonis is a guy that makes any offense cook and holds his own on D. Easy decision for him, as he has a legit shot at a title this year.

As many of you know, I rarely see something I like at first blush and was hesitant to do anything this deadline. This was a very well thought out last second offer. Kudos to NE and to of course to Bish for his tireless work making this game the envy of my basketball loving peers :-)

ANNOUNCEMENT

I've had quite a few inquiries into players that have recently been waived or bought out. Any player who has been waived will sit on the waiver wire for 48 hours (midnight two days after they were waived). The same process will be in place for these players as we have always used. If you want to submit a claim for a player on waivers, PM me with that player. If you are the only team to submit a claim, then you will receive that player with their last signed contract from their previous team. The team that waived that player then clears that cap hit off of their books. If more than one team puts in a claim on a player, the player will be awarded to the team closest to the bottom of the standings. If no team submits a claim on a player on the waiver wire, then that player becomes a free agent.

Players who have cleared the waiver wire and become free agents will then go into the same process we used during the initial draft/summer free agency period. Teams are free to submit bids on those players. If the bid is not beat in six hours than that player will sign a contract with that team. If no team submits a bid on these new free agents in the first 24 hours, then the first bid on that player takes him.

Special case for George Hill- Assuming he clears waivers (since only one team can claim him its probable he will) he will be signing a one year deal with the highest bidder. He will not be going from a triple digit contract to a $1/4 year deal. He will sign for $1 if necessary but not for multiple years. If that is the best offer he gets, then he will sign a one year deal and be a FA again in the offseason.
