i think that had a lot to do with the raps defensive approach where they were aggressive doubling/trapping with their size and length and then having the guys one pass away be active jumping passing lanes. they led the league in forcing turnovers with that approach.
for what he'd command i'd much rather go with someone like terrence ross as a stop-gap filler at SF. O.G. Anunoby would be a much better SF option but we'd have to trade for him and i'm sure masai won't give him up unless they get a fortune and more in return.
One of the things with GTJ is that the rest of his game comes and goes with his shot. If his shot is falling, he's very good, and a plus defender; when his shot goes cold, he tends to fade on D as well.
Will he grow out of this? Who knows? He's a good player, good work ethic, solid pro -- so if he can just give consistent effort even when the shot isn't falling, he's a reasonable option.
But for the Pistons I'd rather go with Grant Williams, who comes with an edge we need
