I'd rather see authenticity than forced, repressed "dignified" platitudes. It's okay if you don't like swearing, but it really has nothing to do with one's dignity or professionalism. A well-placed swear adds color to communication. It's a flavoring. Using them ad nauseam is tacky, though, it's like excessively using flavoring to mask a bad meal. In another post, you talked about toxic communication to justify your point, but this is not the type of swearing that is directed towards anyone as an insult, so it doesn't apply.

Curse words don’t mean what they used to, they do not communicate the same thing that they used to.

Professionalism is an ever-changing agreement in society, it’s not a hard coded set of rules.

I used to be a government financial auditor, the most professional financial company I dealt with had a policy of coming to work and meetings in Hawaiian shirts and Bermuda shorts.

If you are judging people’s dedication to their job by whether they curse or not, you’re going to miss out on some amazing people.

You getting old has nothing to do with it. You can adopt a modern or traditional mindset at any age. There’s nothing wrong with the fact that you don’t like cursing in professional settings. That’s your preference and you should celebrate it rather than attribute it to aging. I know my opinion has little value to you as a stranger, but the part where you project your preference as though it’s a rigid social contract is what makes you feel disappointed inside unnecessarily. You can believe what you believe and if you wanted you could still root for people who believe other things.

Personally I find it refreshing that in such a corporatized room someone reminded everyone we’re human and sometimes rough around the edges. Flavor of life.

It’s ever changing but not always for the better obviously. What is edgy and refreshing now will be the norm and then new limits keep getting pushed.

I actually like the JJ hire but don’t like that he was cursing at the press conference. Same way I didn’t like when Jalen Brown cursed during his MVP speech. There are kids watching and a lot of parents are trying to make sure they don’t use bad words at that age and these dudes don’t realize (don’t care is the better word I guess) that they’re on national/local TV in some cases.

Parents should teach their kids what swear words are, what purpose they serve, and how to use them appropriately - not shield them completely. This applies to many other things regarding parenting, but yeah, repressive/shield parenting is pretty popular. More convenient for some than actually communicating with your kids, I guess.

I didn't have repressive parents, but I did not know a single swear word until I was in 6th grade. I probably heard many, but I never learned what they meant. I didn't serve me any good, probably just made me less funny and expressive than I could have been as a kid.
