Finally got to the see game. TJ needs to be willing to shoot the open 3.

Couple of thoughts after game vs PHI.

Without Gobert and Randle we played small ball / five out offense. So I am viewing it through this lens: how MIN could look when our second unit plays five-out?

1) McDaniels at PF looks good. He acts as roll man, big slasher, not only as corner 3pt shooter

2) Minott has future as PF in fiveout

3) Reid as five-out С has a LOT of potential as passer

4) Donte is made for small ball: he rebounds, passes the ball, shoots and defends. Complete package

Minott turning into a MCD lite would be truly fascinating. If he can knock down the corner 3 at a decent clip, finish inside, defend at a high level, and rebound at a decent clip he could be a legit 6-9 player in a contending rotation. Add to that he is 21 and never really had the minutes to develop, I think we have something here.

Ant had several streaks where he was 0-whatever… seems he’ll be ok though

Ant has 3 modes.

1. Bad team or exhibition mode is minimum effort and more passing focus.

2. Regular season mode. Ant gets up for the game, delivers good numbers consistent with being a top 20 NBA player.

3. Playoff mode. Lookout because if your not careful Ant will drop 40 on you and send you packing..

If Any playmakering takes a leap nobody can really shut him down. The mavericks shrunk the floor on him and he is bad at PNR passes. He can't even through a Lob according to himself. He would have at least 1 or 2 more asts if he just hits Rudy wide open off that PNR last year. If he could make that pass Defenses would not know what to do with him. He would be like Wade Level if he could make those passes.

I agree. Just some observations.

Minott has been a big pleasant surprise for me so far. Maybe he's turning the corner! His shooting which has been bad seems vastly improved. Granted, we need a larger sample size.

I know it's early but NAW can't handle the ball and I question his shooting. Hopefully he gets back on track or he could be moved. DiVincenzo really hurts NAW rotation wise.

Ingles looks old and washed up. I hope I'm wrong on that one.

McD continues to impress in all areas.

Dilly's shot has abandoned him but he can sure dish the ball. He still needs to be more creative going to the basket where his size really hurts him. i still love the pick. He just needs experience.

I can't help but love Garza. i know he has his limitations on defense but he brings a lot to the table for a bench guy.
Cheers.

My bad. My post misunderstood yours. I am pretty heavily medicated these days and it is messing with my head right now. This might happen more often, I apologize in advance.

NAW isn’t a backup PG, and we need one. I still think DDV will end up in that role this year, but Dilly being PG3 and fighting for PG2 is good for his development.

Here is how ESPN reports the results of last nights game: " Paul George shines in preseason debut with 76ers Paul George scores 23 points in his debut with the 76ers as they knock off the Timberwolves in a preseason matchup."

Good post. He also seems to always wave off the huge Gobert pick, which has long been one of the best picks in the league.

When Rudy first arrived, I thought he would really help DLo. I thought Gobert would make up for DLo’s defensive lapses, and since he was already a good passer, so I thought we would see a lot of beautiful pick-and-roll lobs. Instead, DLo was never able (or maybe “willing?”) to throw Rudy lobs, and insisted on throwing him bounce passes that he always fumbled. Fortunately we pivoted to Mike Conley, but even Conley said passing to Rudy and the angles his unique size creates took him a year to figure out when he first came to the Jazz, and he was already a smart vet PG in Memphis.

I would love it if Ant, Mike, and Rudy would just spend a lot of time in practice working on the pick-and-roll. Ant is a willing learner, and Mike is willing teacher. If Mike could pour 75% of his experience with Rudy into Ant’s head .. with Edwards’ athleticism that would be almost impossible for opposing defenses to shut down. Now though, it is a play defenses hope to see.

I still am. But I also said we need another PG so Dilly isn’t forced into the rotation. That PG is DDV. I know he traditionally plays SG, but I think he has the handle and BBIQ to play PG2. So Dilly can go against backups instead of the starters when Mike is out.
