Sure... and we've seen those "standards" of communication and decorum change in many ways, beyond the world of sports.

Check out how some world leaders share their messages now compared to the usual "standards." And it goes beyond tone or whatever. Even misspellings or incoherency are nearly entirely dismissed or ignored now.

Heck, over Christmas, I had a discussion with teenagers about how using punctuation in text messages is nearly universally considered "a sign of anger/frustration" or even "rude."

I didn't ask what me actually spelling full words indicated...

I've been called "cold," because I text with proper grammar. It's a hard habit to break because it was developed for all of the right reasons.

I’ve changed my view on cursing over the last few years.

To begin with, I don’t curse. My friends mock me for it, but that’s ok. To me it always felt like a choice to be potentially offensive, and a crutch for people who aren’t smart enough to learn better descriptive adjectives and adverbs. But unlike most people like me, I don’t care if others curse. I believe people should express themselves however they want, and the limitations I put on myself should never be put on others.

Like many things in life, I had to rethink things when I had kids. Before they were teenagers, I impressed upon them my view. However, as they got older, they demonstrated to me that sometimes the most accurate way to communicate is with a curse word. Accurately getting an idea inside your head across to another person is hard enough, without artificially limiting the words you can use to do it.

When Ant curses, I feel like I’m honestly hearing who he is, and what he thinks. The NBA may be struggling for popularity because most players give canned interviews that never say anything, and it bores fans. Why cheer for these artificial white-washed personalities that all say the same things, and act the same way?

If the NBA fines Ant, I don’t think it’s a problem - he will make more money back by being who he is, when he markets his brand.

That's always been my opinion as well...it comes off as ignorant, like you can't express yourself except through vulgarity. You'd be amazed how many people these days can't hold a simple conversation without swearing, it's kind of sad actually.

It's straight-up bizarre-- a strange reflection of the values of our current time. Proper grammar is a sign of intelligence, which used to be something to take pride in. These days, words no longer matter. Nobody likes the guy who is smarter than them, particularly when they use sound logic and reasoning that conflicts with their feelings. This surge of anti-intellectualism is the result of class warfare and the slow descent from "facts" to "opinions."

I've conceded to removing the period from the end of my last sentence when interacting in certain forums. It makes the conversation "feel" more open-ended

It’s not an 85 mph limit because then there will be plenty going 100+.

Just because things are said in common vernacular doesn’t mean we should continue to lower the bar.

This is something I applaud the league for. A rarity. Keep it professional. They should also fine the coaches for getting rid of suits. Coaches shouldn't be coaching at this level with attiire that looks like they are doing weekend laundry. Just about as egregious to me.

This isn't a moral or etiquette decision being made by the NBA; it's a business decision. If the curse words make it to air, then TNT/ESPN are hearing from the FCC. The NBA, in turn, is then hearing from TNT/ESPN.

I'd even argue that Steph curry is really popular and presentable along with James harden is because they are not tatted up head to toe like LeBron or jr smith

I'm not really a fan of it personally. On one hand words are words and we all hear/use them everyday. On the other hand there should be a level of professionalism and also kids watch this stuff too. I dunno, it's not a huge deal but at the same time it's really easy to not swear on live television
